The rule of thumb is 10% of body weight + 1-2 lbs. So aim for a 25 pound blanket.

Q: The blanket arrives and doesn't stretch to edges of my queen mattress - is it not supposed to go over the side of the bed too?

Due to the blanket weight, it’s not necessary to choose oversized blanket. Generally 60''x80'' size blanket can fit Queen size bed, but not suppose to go over the side of the bed.
