Austin-Healey Big Healeys: The Essential Buyer's Guide

Finally, a practical guide for the non-mechanic!
Because you are not a mechanic and because you cannot drag your mechanic to each car show and auction you attend, you need some practical (and frank) advice on what to consider when buying a 50+ year-old car. The book is divided into convenient sections about what you need to consider: is this car for you? cost considerations? etc. There is even a paragraph or two on what it will cost to fix the problems you find. The book is rich in good non-technical advice as if your trusted "car guy" was standing next to you. Once you get passed the British terms ("wings" for fenders, bonnet, boot, hood, etc.), you have an enjoyable book to read, even if you wind up not buying the car.

Very compact book with the essentials of what to look ...
Very compact book with the essentials of what to look for when someone new to the marque is considering purchasing a big Healey. The book is not large enough to offer quality images nor long enough to offer the detail that may be required to make a purchase decision. Other larger, more expensive Healey books already have this information.

a much needed primer
Short, sweet and too the point. Does an excellent jo of breaking down the car into critical sub-sections and walking through inspection. I don't see another big Healey purchase in the near future, but you just never know what be hidden in the back of that odd garage.Great job Reid!

If you're looking to buy a Healey, buy this book first !
Reid does a complete job on his discussions of the big Healey's ! Every Healey owner should buy a copy to support his efforts both with this book and as edititor of the Austin Healey Club of America's "Healey Marque".

Nice Concisely Written & Informative
Even though I've owned a big Healey for 16 years and have read probably 2 dozen books on Healeys and attended eight AHCA Conclaves, there were several new things I learned from this book.

Too Generic
I expected much better. Much of the information is generic, applicable to any car, like rust, panel fit, etc.. It doesn't go into what to look for in different models. While there are some specifics about Healeys, it is weak and not detailed enough. Sure, there is info if you don't know much about cars but if you are car guy looking for a buying guide with lots of detail on the big Healey, this book leaves you unsatisfied.

Good stuff.
Gave as gift to a Healey lover. I too paid no attention to the smaller size of the book during purchase and was somewhat surprised upon its arrival. It isn't a coffee table book so have your halfies on hand. Good stuff.

Some nice tips, but nothing that can't be missed.
If you want to buy a car worth 20 to 40k, it's good to be well informed. Or bring an expert with you. There are a lot of good books that give more information. Yes, more expensive. But they offer better value for the money. If you have the money to buy a Big Healey, you can afford a better book, for example 'The bulldog breed'.This guide only scratches the surface. Nice if you want to buy a car around 5k.At half the price it would have been good value for the money.About the seller: very good and sturdy packaging, no complaints there.

Interessante libro tascabile
