just received this five mins ago
First off it's a beautiful book! But as you can see from the picture the front cover is already torn from the rest of the book. Not going to attempt to return, exchange, refund I've never had any luck getting refunds from Amazon that have been promised. Thankfully this is not a gift, it's for myself. As I said the book itself is beautiful. It makes a great gift. I gave one to my brother for Christmas. His was in perfect condition.

Easy to make!
What a great book! I wanted a simplified book so that I could make my favorite Middle Eastern desserts at home. The procedures and ingredients have been made (almost) foolproof. The book gives a fair amount of background information to make the cooking part fun. The illustrations are fantastic.

wonderful combination of food history, fables and family recipes
This book charmingly ties together medieval Arabic recipes with stories from the Arabian Nights and modernized recipes. The only flaw is that it doesn't tell you about the sources that it cites (merely gives titles which you then have to google for further information.)

Great gift/coffee table book/recipe book
This book is perfect for anyone who loves the sweets and dessert of the orient and is also interested in the culture/history of the region. The illustrations are beautiful, the recipes work, although some contain ingredients that are a little unusual in the UK (rose water is a basic ingredient, for example, although it can be made by boiling rose petals), and the extracts from 1,001 Arabian nights will interest adults and children. A fantastic concept and design, which makes a really great book.

Not What I Had Expected
I had expected a book of Middle Eastern sweet recipes. Instead the recipes were intermingled with extracts from the Arabian Nights in a gawdy, garish format. Disappointing.

Nice but..
It' nice, I really like the stories but I am a bit disappointed with the recipes. I was waiting for cake recipes as well but there are only sweets (like halva, baklava, etc).
