Hamusuta the Happy Hamster in Ball with realistic running action

Hamster ball
Did not work; had to take it completely apart to get to the battery compartment; like to have never got everything back together; then the hamster was too big to be in the small ball and the wheels would not get traction to make it roll; so the only thing my kitty does it stare at it and just push it around once in awhile; she has lost interest; I had one of these many, many years ago that I purchased at Cracker Barrel; that one was great, ball was big, easy access to battery compartment, and many years of enjoyment.

Favorite toy of our Norwich Terrier foster dog!!! Really entertaining to watch too.
Favorite toy of our Norwich Terrier foster dog!!! Really entertaining to watch too.At first our 1.5 year old pup was confused and a little scared. But when I took the hamster out of the ball and let it run across the low pile carpet, she went crazy! Crazy is a good thing. She barked, nipped, did a play pose, growled. When she was brave enough to pick up the hamster, she shook the life out of it. The hamster is very firm and not a dog toy. This was purely for introduction. Then I put the hamster back in the ball and she realized she needed to get the hamster OUT of the ball. She ran the ball all over the room, stood on it, tried to bite it open, followed the ball as the hamster took the ball across our wood floor. The ball is much too big to fit in her mouth. It is a hilarious sight to see!Held her attention for over 10 minutes and kept her running around the house.CON: I see 3 downsides to this toy for a dog.1. the ball is very hard plastic and makes LOTS of noise when it hits walls or runs across the wood floors. Must be used in the daytime or outside where noise isn't an issue.2. The ball opens when it hits the wall too hard and the hamster scurries out. This can be good for your dog to feel accomplished. But again, the hamster is not a toy and could quickly be eaten!!! NO GOOD. I easily use tape to keep it closed.3. If you have the hamster off in the ball, and the ball hits the wall hard enough while playing, the hamster will be jolted ON.As a side note: i decided to get this hamster ball over the Zue Zue hamster and ball because this was cheaper and the ball looked more transparent. Would buy this Hamusuta again for other doggies or crawling babies.

So cute!
Our twin grandchildren were THRILLED by these realistic little critters. They even kept us adults entertained! Our granddaughter's ran beautifully, and continued to run through the house for their entire visit. Our Grandson's did not work properly (the wheels spin, but the critter doesn't run), but he still had fun rolling it after his sister's!

Hamusuta VS Zhu Zhu Pet
My son was given a Zhu Zhu pet for his birthday; I noticed its wheels kept gathering hair from the carpet (I have long hair and we also have a cat, so it's impossible to keep the hair out of the carpet for very long) so I went in search of a hamster ball.I ordered the Hamusuta hoping that the Hamusuta ball would be suitable for the Zhu Zhu pet. Unfortunately, the ball is too small. The Zhu Zhu pet is distinctly larger (taller and longer) than the Hamusuta. It fits in the ball, but it cannot run in it; the wheels don't touch the surface of the ball. It probably wouldn't have worked even if it did fit, though, because you have to press the Zhu Zhu pet to activate it.Hamusuta is unlike Zhu Zhu because it has an on/off switch underneath (note: it runs on one AAA battery). It doesn't pause or make hamster sounds like the Zhu Zhu pet; its sole purpose is to run around. But it is actually pretty fun to put it in the ball and just watch it go. I'm sure my toddler will get a kick out of it. For the price, you can't go wrong. It's a simple but very cute toy.

Cute, but requires supervision
I actually bought this as a toy for my cats. They were excited when I first brought it out but soon lost interest because it didn't exhibit the right "prey behavior", i.e. it didn't move fast enough and didn't try to run and hide. I sometimes babysit for a friend's children who are 5 and 8 and they like playing with this sometimes, so it hasn't gone to waste, but I really have to carefully keep an eye on them with it so they don't get their hair (or anything else) caught in the mechanism of the Hamster - it is not hugely likely to happen, but there is enough of a likelihood that I feel it is best to be safe rather than sorry. I also bought a Zhu Zhu pet for my cats which also failed to keep them interested for the same reasons as above - kids play with both hamsters together and will put either one into the hamster ball and have some games together. So a reasonably decent toy at a decent price, but does require adult supervision and is unlikely to appeal to most older children.

A surprise REALLY FUN gift for Christmas!
This gift was intended as a funny, playful item for a 10 year old and to make the adults laugh. We thought it would be a short-lived gift. As a joke, I added the mom's name to the package -- make air-holes to pretend like it was something alive inside (she's not a "pet" person). She opened the bag and was over the moon for this little hamster...she took possession of it, named it and little "Sheila" was the hit of the night...and the next day and the next. The little hamster waddles inside the ball like a little hamster. Pretty soon, all the adults were bonding with "her". Really fun. I don't suspect that the ball would last if kids drop it and are rough with it. But it worked just fine with adults. Installing the battery could be a big challenging for a child--recommend someone older change the battery as the "unit" needs to be gently lifted from the base of the hamster. "Sheila" also can waddle without her ball but she is more apt to pick up lint, loose hair from the floor. We got a kick out of letting her burrow under mounds of wrapping paper. Really cute novelty gift for us adults! Great price & great quick amazon shipping!
