I've Never Been (Un)Happier

Unimpressed
While it was a good attempt at discussing depression and anxiety this book didn't do a great job at it. I say that because it lacked personal stories, surprising (!) for a book which is meant to be an individual's account of their experience with depression. It borrowed too much from references and research instead of establishing a personal connection with the reader. It didn't leave me with a deeper understanding of mental illness or the writer's struggle with it than what I could've just looked up on Google. For instance, she says that her depression has interfered with her relationships (romantic or otherwise), but she never tackles how.

From the heart!!!
I love her honesty. She told her story sincerely from her heart. I hope that someday she truly finds the peace that she deserves.

HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!
Before I picked up this book, I knew it would be a difficult read. Any book surrounding the topics depression and anxiety is often quite heavy for me and I read with tears in my eyes.◇This book does a great job in highlighting the effects of depression. I didnt expect it to be so educational but it was. I admire Shaheen's confidence in writing this book. She does not hesitate in outlining her experience with depression which she has experienced for nearly 20 years. The pain is evident within these pages and I found myself crying when reading parts of her experience because the suffering was very much painful to read about.◇I have read many books on depression and despite that fact, I've realised that they all differ from one another. Even when people experience the same symptoms that often come with depression, their experience is anything but alike and this fact intrigues me which is why I will continue to read books surrounding this topic. No one's experience is the same which also makes depression that much harder to understand.◇Please note that if you intend on reading this book, it does cover sensitive topics such as suicidal thoughts, depression and anxiety. The author does not shy away from detailing her experience so please keep this in mind.◇With that being said, I recommend this book to everyone. Whether you have experienced depression or want to know more about one's experience with depression, I truly believe this book is a great place to start.

This book is the perfect introduction to anyone trying to understand depression.
Easy to read, Shaheen uses several metaphors to describe the feelings, emotions and turmoil associated with depression. If you are going through it or love someone dealing with depression, please consider reading this book. It is wonderfully articulated and relatable.

I think to speak so openly about your experiences, in it self is a huge success. Not many people could speak up about what’s happening and how they seek medical help. So for me as a trained medical professional this is a huge accomplishment. Shaheen should be proud.. I pray this allows others to be able to seek help with confidence and speak out without being judged in society. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
