Great for Students and Early Career Geologists
I bought this book for a graduate level course. I still use it in my professional life. It's about the right amount of detail for covering a lot of complex topics without overloading people new to the industry. Obviously if you're looking for more specific topics/workflows/technical breakdowns of specific sub-disciplines, there are available books for them, but this is a great overview of the petroleum field from a geology perspective. As I stated before, it's a great reference to look back to when refreshing myself on topics that I may not use in an everyday capacity. I would recommend this book for any student or any early-career petroleum geologist.

Selley does and excellent job on explaining the Elements of Petroleum Geology with regard to conventional reservoirs and traps. I use his text to teach a course by that title. I change the order of presentation to follow the essential elements necessary for a petroleum accumulation, then get into the exploration methods and basin analysis. Sonnenberg's contribution of unconventional reservoirs is authoritative and very timely. Together they have made an excellent teaching and reference text.

Good but over priced
Good user book, imperfect cover condition however. A bit over priced compared to competitors.

Very thin pages on this hardback edition. You can see though each page and the text on the other side. Not great quality. The content is fine but really limited to the 'elements' much of the time. As a graduate student, I wish there was more content

Disappointed!
Very poor quality figures and images I immediately regretted purchasing it! Why not spending some efforts to produce nice figures?
