This pencil compass is made to exacting standards in St Etienne France by Aime Ledin Construction Mecanique. Aime Ledin has been making industrial quality measuring and marking tools since 1902. This pencil compass is made from high-grade carbon steel and has a hardened and finely ground point. It includes a universal pencil holder. It has a black gun metal finish to resist corrosion. It features a quick-spring nut for rapid and precise fine adjustments that will securely hold any measurement. To make large adjustments, tip the nut to disengage the threads, and slide to a new measurement. Release the spring to engage the threads and turn the nut for fine adjustments. The robust “Yankee” style flat-leg construction makes the unit very durable. They have a burnished and hardened spring for years of service. Leg length is 8", overall length is 9-1/2", and overall opening is 8".

nice quality at a reasonable price
A good compass for woodworking is not a trivial matter. This fits the bill and can be adjusted super fast. I made a short steel spike to put in place of the pencil so I can also use it as a divider. The pencil point angles inward so it can draw small diameter circles.

Well made compass!
This is an excellent compass. I bought it for laying out designs on wooden bowls and gourds. Appears to be well made. Very sharp point. Pencil tip aligns well with point.
