Genesis (Kidner Classic Commentaries)

Excellent read and gives you a deeper look into Genesis

As a lay-person, Kidner’s style of examination is perfect for me. While punctuated with academia and research, there are enough practical insights and encouragements to make the commentary immediately readable but also remain a valuable reference tool in general studies. I also highly recommend his commentaries of the Proverbs.

Derek Kidner is one who apparently has walked the road to Emmaus. Reading this commentary is to have our mind opened to truly understand the Hebrew Scriptures, such that the risen Lord Jesus himself is again allowed to, "… beginning with Moses and all the prophets" interpret to us "in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself " (Lk 24:27). This is Evangelical scholarship at it's very best: succinct, well documented, eloquent, humble and Christ glorifying!

I found this to be a good source to supplement my preparations to teach Sunday school. However, I also tried The NIV Application Commentary (John Walton) and I like it better. Both are great sources for more understanding of the scripture in Genesis.

Just got this book yesterday for a bible study. There are a lot of material to ponder.

This book was a great study guild, I do feel he left out some more important information on the creation and the fall of man, however; he backs up everything with the word of God and additional scriptures to help the average reader follow along and to expand their research.

great and succinct commentary on Genesis!

I have just started reading this and it wasn't what I was expecting. Not an easy read. At times it gets deep and sometimes vague. Hopefully it will get better.

In my opinion this remains the best evangelical commentary on Genesis. It is faithful to the biblical record but open to alternative and contemporary opinions and theories. Cautious, informed and imaginative discussion is offered in English prose that is pithy and sometimes picturesque.
