JOANNA LUMLEY'S NILE

An Africa I never knew before....
I've always been a big fan of Joanna Lumley; I didn't know about this travel DVD until recently, however---once I learned of it's existence, I purchased it. I have always been a big fan of Egyptian culture, which is what also lured me to this item. I have to preface this review by saying, I'm disabled, so I would never be able to travel. Joanna, instead, is traveling for me, in a way; this DVD takes you places you can't really find on many travel films. For example, she goes to Ethiopia and we get to see the landscape (absolutely hauntingly beautiful) like the mountains there. But most of all, I love her sincerity. She's 'right there' with the people of the countries she visits; you can just feel her personal interest and fascination with the the peoples of the African people she meets along the way. And the people respond positively to her sincerity. I love the fact that while in Ethiopia, she gets baptised by the Ethiopian/Orthodox priest; he must have felt the goodness in her heart and soul for him to have done that. I highly recommend this DVD to any 'arm-chair' traveler like myself. You will come away from it feeling very positive. In a way, by the time I was done watching, I felt almost 'healed'.

Very entertaining
Really a well done series, Joanna Lumley is great and a real trooper at times. If you are interested in Africa and the Nile but doubt you will ever go there, this is a good thing to watch.

Ms Lumley visits fascinating parts of Africa
I loved watching this video. My wife and I have been to Egypt twice but never to the rest of the NIle countries. The other counties were fascinating but I do not believe I would want to take the same boat rides that she did. We have been to five countries in the south of Africa so we have experienced many of the cultural aspects of these countries. We found her narrative fascinating and very enjoyable. It is very enlightening! I highly recommend this video!!!!

I'd probablywatch her travel through grocery stores
First of all, I'm a big Joanna Lumley fan. I'd probably watch her travel through grocery stores, if that were actually a thing. Secondly, her travel series is easy to watch and full of interesting information. If Jennifer Saunders had joined her on her journey, I'd have given it 5 stars! I would recommend it to friends, especially her Greek Odyssey.

I found a cool traveling companion that I will never be bored with-lol!
Amazing adventure! So happy to be her traveling companion for this unique experience. Thank You, Acorn (and Amazon). You add a quality to my life that is very much appreciated. Acorn offers programs that I know would never be available to me otherwise. Now, forgive me, I'm off on a Greek Odyssey with Joanna Lumley.

What a disappointment!
Rather than seeing the sights at the sites, we saw only her and her reactions to the wonders I wanted to see.we went to the pyramids, but we mainly focused on her ride on the cam,e. We did even go to the Sphinx. What a disappointment!

Incredible series
I loved every minute of this programme. What compelling viewing! I never knew the source of the Nile was in Rwanda, and how long and how fascinating her journey was going to be. Joanna has a lovely calm voice that guides you the through the beautiful scenery and she knows her subject well. I am going to buy all the other series she has made. She is a very good presenter and I'm surprised and disappointed that she hasn't been added to the list of presenters like Portillo and Palin who are continually praised and recognised as such.

Compelling viewing!
Received this this morning. Subtitles very helpful. This is a very interesting documentary through 5 countries in which include Egypt, Sudan, Ethiopia, Uganda and Rwanda. She actually manages to find the source of the Nile itself. This is a journey of over 4000 miles, and a lot of it is inaccessible to holidaymakers, which makes this compelling viewing for a start. During the journey, she meets locals who work on the Nile. has wood smoke treatment, sees Olympic hopefuls, and gets up close to a Rhino calf playing with it's mother. Compelling viewing!
