Just what I needed!
I haven't re-threaded anything in the last 29 years. Quite frankly I didn't want to spend the money to do something so simple that I knew I could do myself. But at the same time I felt some intimidation that I might mess it up somehow. And while I contemplated just buying the heli-coil for $15, but I'm also looking at something that's small and under my valve cover right beside the timing chain. I liked the fact that the TIME-SERT is one piece and less likely to fracture or break off into the moving parts of my car motor. That's when cheap becomes expensive! Let me tell you, it came just as it was listed. When I unwrapped the packing material I was greeted by a plastic case with a gold colored emboss of the word TIME-SERT. It had a sticky label securing the lid shut so there was no risk of things falling out till you opened it. On the side is a barcode with the kit number and on the back is another laber with the initials of who manufactured your kit along with the date of manufacture. When I cut open the seal and opened it up, I was greeted with 5 compartments. One had 5 TIME-SERTS in it, one had the drill bit in a plastic sleeve to protect it, one had the tap also in a protective sleeve, the next spot had a insert tool in a clear plastic baggy with a note indicating the use of a lubricant when using the insert tool and the last spot had the counterbore bit in it. My son wanted to see how it was done and I honestly thought about making him do it. But decided I would show him and I tell you what, it was so easy that I do not know what I was so afraid of doing. Thank you TIME-SERT!

One of the few tools that work as they should
I think this is the first review I have ever left on Amazon. However, I am so pleased with the Time-Sert product I had to leave a review.I am a small time Porsche collector and have always collected air cooled cars. Recently, however, the price of the water cooled 911's (996) have reached a point that I thought it was time to add one to the fold. After buying a 1999 911 the first step was to change the oil and drop the sump plate to look for IMSB and timing chain guide debris. You can imagine my disappointment when the head of one of the M6 bolts holding the sump plate broke off! Apparently, this is a common issue. The engine (being in the rear of the car and somewhat low) sometimes bottoms out on bumps, curbs, etc. Even if the sump plate doesn't crack, the bolts will stress fracture and beak on removal. (BTW...the oil in sump plate was very clean. So, there was some good news in all this).Anyway, after dropping the sump plate there was just a little bit of the bolt protruding from the bottom of M96 engine's aluminum block. Trying vice-grips to remove the bolt did nothing. There wasn't enough bolt to grab. Next, I tried JBWelding a nut to the protruding bolt. That was useless. Lastly, I tried drilling out the bolt with a left handed drill bit (hoping that the left handed drilling action would unscrew the bolt). No luck, there. At this point, I had run out of "easy" options. I knew I was going to have to either drill out the bolt with a larger drill bit and retap for a larger bolt or try a Time-Sert and/or Helicoil. After researching my options, I settled on the Time-Sert. Using Amazon Prime the kit arrived in two days. After arrival I watched the videos on YouTube (again) and went through the process in my mind. It was with some trepidation I approached the car knowing that a used engine (not rebuilt) is $7500 to $10K for these cars. My anxiety level was high. However, once I got going it was really quite easy. The whole process took 30 minutes from start to finish with me taking numerous breaks to verify my work and plan the next step. The payoff came at the end when the time-sert was in and I offered the sump plate back up to the car. The bolt went in easily and torqued down to the required 10 N-m with no issue. Success!I found the kit was pretty complete. I did add the following to help me: Oatey 30200 Clear Cutting Oil for the drill and tapping. Time-Sert Tap Guide part # 36105 (VERY useful for making sure the tap was perpendicular to the block). Lisle L170500 Tap socket set for driving the tap and insertion tool.Based on this experience, I know I have a new tool in my arsenal should I break another bolt!

Great fix, but at a Price
This is one of the few unique tools out that that actually works as its supposed to. The instructions are clear and easy to follow for a first timer. I found that using in on a vintage UJM was far better than helicoil or tapping a whole new thread for a bigger bolt.I will say that the price point is a bit high for what you get. The tool can only be used on one specific size and only comes with 5 inserts. This means that if you only have a one off fix, at $70+ a kit, I might just be cheaper to buy a whole new part. It also means that it can get extremely expensive having to repair multiple sizes. In the end, the fix is solid. And if I come across an issue again, this will my first go to. I just hope its the very same size i had already bought....

Solid, permanent solution to stripped threads!
While Time-Sert kits may be more costly than other thread repair solutions, I feel that this is a permanent fix and I don't have to worry about the insert backing out or fatiguing over time. As long as you use the kit as specified and blow your holes out with light compressed air, the fix should last a lifetime. Once you buy the kit, the inserts aren't very costly compared to the competition, and I feel they are a better product. Good investment if you deal with stripped fasteners more than once.

Good quality tools
Worked great, I was going to use a Heli coil but this is much better, a steel sleeve. Stronger than the original aluminum threads in my 1000$ mountain bike fork! A little expensive, but well worth it. You're paying for the tools, they cut perfect!
