Ordered this for a Stand up motor scooter. I installed on the very 1st pull the string came out of housing (see pic), so at that point there is no fixing it, after taking the pull starter off I figured out what needed to be done and checked.I ordered up a new, (1st I am not responsible if you mess up your pull starter, this is just what I did.)This is what I did: 1 unreeled about a foot of rope and then lightly clamped the inside of the housing spring not to damage the spring real just to make sure it does not move. 2 take small pick/screwdriver pry out the end of the rope it "should" have a knot in it, you can double knot or what I did was cut the knot put a small washer and then double knotted it (see pic), after the washer or double knot install push knot back into housing, 3 pry knot out of the actual plastic pull and double knot this one, 4 with your thumb hold spring housing and slowly release the clamp on spring housing after clamp is off take one free hand and hold string near where the string enters the housing, release your thumb holding the spring reel, and slowly let string backing into housing. 5 test hold housing with one hand while pulling pull string with other.Hope this helps somebodyBottom line You get what you pay for I say cautiously only because the ones that are double the price look identical to me same plastic insides so you be the judge..

The original one on an E43 broke and I couldn't put it back together. Found these on Amazon with mixed reviews but I thought I would give it a try. Purchased two, so as to have a spare. Installed with no problem. I secured down very snugly to assure good contact. Pulled several times on a cultivator that had not been started in almost a year. It started and then I shut off and re-started several more times. No problem at all. I'm careful to not pull out of the assembly but just enough to start. My son pulled the original one like it would pull 6 feet, that's why it broke. The plastic case is heavy but not quite as heavy as the original. The internal assembly seemed very much the same. Time will tell but so far very pleased.

Unit was as factory except for the cheap pull handle, it broke on the first pull..

This was a life saver. I bought a second hand auger that came from Harbor Freight, and as you know, you get what you pay for. The Starter that came on the Auger was cheap and the cord ate away at the plastic in a matter of pulls. So I ordered this as a replacement. I needed something that was cheap and I could get fast so I wasn't expecting much, but this is far better quality that what came standard on the auger. The Auger was Central Machinery and It worked great!

Super easy installation. Only complaint is the thickness of the plastic is not very good so that could break in the future. But for the price we’ll worth it.

Price was great looks a lot cheaper made than original one instead pulled rope 1 time and pulled right out of it the hole is bigger than the knot

This works as designed. The casing is plastic, not like the metal original part. The pull string is a bit shorter as well, but it starts my post hole digger just fine. Good replacement for OEM part considering the price.
