did not know existed until I saw these
I am 52 years old and thought a carpenter pencil was sharpened with a pocket or utility knife, which ever was handier. I was looking for small gifts for my two sons and came across these. So far the one I kept for myself works great. It even has a small hole to run a string through. I am using a piece of chalk line string.

I'm not a carpenter, but I sometimes find large, flat pencils that don't roll away useful. The lead are what artists know as a HB pencils; or what generations of American school-aged children know as a No. 2 pencils. Softer, decently dark lead. For those that fear sharpening by hand, with a blade, they sharpen well with the Irwin sharpener (Amazon search ASIN B0002UKSQE. I'm very happy with my purchase.

Really good quality, Sharpening the pencil with a knife is easy peasy. Orange so easy to find/spot.Only thing : Pencil is not 1/2''x1/8'' but 14mmX7mm and 17.5cm long.
