Saved me from welding out three broken exhaust manifold bolts.
The design is pretty good and they are easy to use. The only issue I have is on the inside of the collet that goes over the stud and grabs it is like less than 1/4 inch of bite on the stud. They could have been made with a much deeper bite for more contact on the stud. You do really have to crank these down with hand wrenches so they don't slip. Another improvement would be the contact area to the stud should be grooved for added bite. This one is smooth which makes it much harder to get tight enough to remove. Snap On used to make a really heavy duty version of these but is discontinued. They did do what I needed them to do but there is room for improvement. I am happy with the purchase though.

Works well. The right tool for the job.
Works extremely well. Requires a lot of force to prevent slipping on stud. Cost is a bit higher than it should be for a non- precision collet. There's other tools for stud removal but this one works when others don't.

Great replacement for the snap on collet tool that is no longer available
I was looking for the Snap on CG-500, but was told by Snap on it is no longer being made. This OTC tool worked great to do exactly the same thing. Definitely recommend this tool. The procedure I had came from an engine building guide that recommends using an impact wrench to lock the tool onto the stud (which also rotates it slightly), then used a propane torch to heat the engine case for 10-15 minutes (with a timer) then used a wrench on the tool to remove the stud from the case. The studs came out undamaged (incredibly) although I am replacing them anyway. More importantly no broken studs. This tool is amazing!
