Great educational toy.
I picked up the Eyeclops Bionic Eye for my wife. She teaches elementary school and I am always looking for tools that she can use to teach science to her students.Close-up images of everyday items are easy to come by in children's or nature magazines, but the Bionic Eye immediately opens up a world to children that they otherwise couldn't see. For people who aren't good with electronics this thing is a no-brainer to set up. You just hook the cables up to your television and aim the device at whatever you want to see enlarged. The camera Takes a little practice to learn how to focus it quickly. The focusing mechanism is entirely manual so you have to rotate the lens in order to get a clear image. When something is really out out of focus it is easy to turn the focusing dial in the wrong direction.Otherwise the eye works quite well. You can use it to get a closer look into the fine textures of just about any household item: skin, hair, coins, dollar bills, wood, magazines, newspaper, carpet, textiles, and more. One of these would be a great addition to any child's classroom, playroom, or homeschool. It is lots of fun and has a number of possible educational benefits.

Fun for a few minutes but then you never use it again
This is an older model of this toy. If you are thinking about buying this, make sure you check around and find the latest version. I am sure the newer models are better.Basically this little thing magnifies a small object under the lens on your TV. It uses one "Yellow" video cable. This versions camera needs a lot of light. It takes a lot of patience to get the focusing correct so you can see the all the cool little details. It was interesting looking at dollar bills, the carpet, and coins, but then you really run out of things to fit under the microscope. We spent about 30 minutes playing with it, thought it was really cool, but then we forgot about this toy until we needed to have a yard sale. The "coolness" factor quickly runs out. Kids under the age of 8 will probably not be able to master the focusing eye and will lose interest. So following the age guidelines for this toy.

Good Idea...
I bought this toy for my 8 year old nephew. He and I thought this both sounded like a cool learning toy. However, when we used it, it was very hard to get the camera in focus. It required a high level of light, even though the camera comes equipped with a light, and it was tough to adjust the focus while keeping the camera still. He wasn't able to use it on his own, and I had to assist him. If you can get the hang of it though, it does magnify greatly and we did have fun with it, it was just a bit of trouble to get it to work correctly.

Lots of fun, easy to use, and educational, too!
We received both a traditional microscope and this Bionic Eye for Christmas, and we haven't even opened the microscope yet! I know that we will, but for now, the Bionic Eye is so much fun! The detail is so alarmingly clear that you can literally examine a skin mole using it! A hair on your arm looks like a thick piece of pipe! We looked close-up at a dollar bill, coins, food, little cars, etc.We got it for a really great price (single digit price, not sure if I'm allowed to say here how much or not?) and it was a great purchase. Highly recommend it!

Value exceeds price!!!
This product well exceeded my expectations. I am building an exhibit for a local aquarium and will be using the "toy" to create a video microscope. I am pleased that this will absolutely meet my needs and I am considering purchasing more for other applications. I highly recommend this toy to anyone bit by the science bug.

should have paid attention to the neg. reviews.
Most disappointing purchase I've made in yrs. What's w/the +++reviews? I can't imagine any child playing w/this for more than a few minutes. It's difficult to get focused on completely flat objects(book, $bill), forget about magnifying anything that's not. Even with optimum focus colors bleed & image is poor(even for a toy). Magnification's strong but of little value w/such bad picture. This toy should come free in a box of cereal. Save your money & get something else. The Digital Blue microscopes are 100% better.

Looks nice, but your limited by TV distance.
Stuff looks pretty cool blown up on the TV but I liked the other version with the LCD screen better, which of course I gave away as a christmas gift. got this one as the price was good and wanted to have once when I played with the once I gave away.only thing i dont like is that it takes 5 AA batteries to use it. If you are using it near your tv why not have an AC adapter?

Shouldn't be a toy
Really cool, but too sophisticated to be engineered like a toy. Takes a lot of tweeking to focus, and once you do, you have to hold perfectly still or you'll mess the whole thing up. I did get a cool picture of a flea with it.
