The hoodie part is removable. There is one inner pocket near the left breast.

Q: how thick and strong is the denim shell?

It’s not heavy or stiff like carhart. With the insulation I found it somewhat light in weight. Good for above freezing temps. I can’t see outer shell standing up to serious outside work where abrasion or tearing could be a issue. Watch the. Pricing it jumps all over depending on colors

6' and about 155 lbs and the medium fits me perfectly. I wouldn't go with a small, I think the arms would be too short.
