Mail Boss, Bronze 7158 Surface Mount Base Plate

4x4 wooden post needs to be trimmed but will support heavy, hard-wood arch ♡
I made this arch as a surprise for my friends' wife on their wedding day and these were almost perfect. I was worried the surrounding bases wouldn't be wide enough to support the heavy-ass arch but they were *almost* perfect & he specifically did NOT want angled cross supports at the top. A 4x4 post does NOT fit without some chiseling on all sides and also accommodating those weird nubby things on the inside which are only on three sides but once they fit I used wood screws to secure the posts. No one was walking under the arch so I can't say how stable it is if it were hit accidentally but this was made with 2 4x4 posts, 6' tall, the front beam is 2×8, 6' long and a 1×4 on the very top. All done with fir with prominent vertical grain from a local lumber yard and stained with Varathane shade Kona.

They work for nominal 4x4s but...
You'll have to do some milling. These bases are designed to receive metal posts made by the same manufacturer, not standard 4x4 posts. So, that means the inside measurement is 3 3/8, not 3 1/2, let alone the 3 9/16 that's usually the real measurement of 4x4s.The customer didn't want me to tear up their deck in order to fasten the posts to the joists. I didn't want to either, as the deck screws (quote-unquote rust-proof) tend to rust and break unless they're stainless steel—making the removal of old decking dicey. These bases fit the bill and while they're not as rock solid as timberlocks fastened to a joist, they're still just about rock solid and I fastened them straight down with two timberlocks aligned with the joists.Photos attached so you can see what I had to do to prep the 4x4s. Used a joiner to slim the ends, then a router because the holes that receive the screws stick in about 3/16.

Sturdy, Strong, Easy to work with
Fantastic base for my hybrid mailbox replacement. I went with this solid base and a weak wood post so that when it gets mowed down by the next blind driver, it'll be an easy post replacement, with a base that won't give up.

Well Built and Sturdy
The Mail Boss base plate mount was powder coated and very well built out of heavy steel. It came with all the screws to attach to our wooden deck and the separate Mail Boss post to this mount. This base plate mount had slots on the bottom to allow for any water drainage as well. I highly recommend it.

Ridiculous
Whywould any one build a product with the intention of putting a 4x4 in it and the 4x4 does not fit? I needed to mount my mailbox but way too much rock but not solid enough to attach to. So i bought this thing to place in a mold and then poor concrete all the way around it. The purpose forthis was just incase the 4x4 was hit i could easily repalce it. but once the concrete was poured and cured I flipped the piece over that now weighs 110pds to find the 4x4 doesnt fit. The outs side dimensions of the product are the actual size of a 4x4. so then i had to take the new 4x4 and start carving away to make it fit. After about 1.5 hrs it finally fit and I now have a mailbox ready for the mail.It works great but why not make this fit a 4x4???

Secure/large mailbox.
It is good. I paid a friend to do the in ground installation. However, I had to go buy metal screws since the enclosed package contained wood screws! Having a key to open and close the mailbox is nice security. Mailbox large enough to hold small packages.

Way over priced but works good.
The price you charge for this is ridiculous. Had my wife not ordered the mailbox already, I would not have gotten this and should have sent the box back too. IF YOU do buy this, note the specific bolt hole pattern before installation.

Sturdy enough for the job
Bracket is ok for the purpose. Paint is poor quality in the it chips way too easy. I do not have time to return. Will repaint it myself.
