*** PERFECT OTA SETUP with DVR ***
Hey Guys, this is one of the first reviews of a device that really needed the "props" it truly deserves! I'm a Network Specialist & have always used Amazon reviews in all my purchasing choices. It's people like you that make this buying community so great. Just wanted to return the favor in this review. This is the Perfect Setup for Cord-cutters!!! Trust me, I've tried a lot. So lets get started...I'm going to try to keep this quick and clean but, can give as much Tech details if needed. Please just follow ALL Manufactures Instructions first. Lets Begin. What you need from Amazon? Just 3 Things.1.AirTV 2 by AirTV-LLC2.[2019 Latest] HD Digital Amplified TV Antenna – Support 4K 1080P & All Older TV's Indoor Powerful HDTV Amplifier Signal Booster - Coax Cable Included3.SanDisk Cruzer 256GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive (SDCZ36-256G-B35)*************************Product Notes**This month I've tried both the first gen AirTV & this second AirTV2 model which was just released. The difference is night and day! The AirTV2 is hands down the better product to buy for just a few bucks more. (Currently even comes with a $25 off Promo code to Sling new & current customers). The Antenna is perfect! **This is important** It has both UHF & VHF Capabilities. The first HD antenna I bought(from a different manufacturer)didn't have the VHF. I ended up not being able to get all of the OTA HD channels in my area. No NFL Games. So Please folks, whatever antenna you buy, make sure it can also receive the VHF Spectrum. I have it in the bottom of my window and it's a dream. 1byOne is the manufacturer of this antenna. They come in Black and White. 1byOne makes several models but the one I bought is the "UPDATED" model not the prior "UPGRADED". I'm sure the prior one works just as good though.AirTV2 OTA DVRSo this is going to be a HUGE HELP to all of you I hope, because I haven't seen much info on the web.How many Gigabytes = Hours of AirTV2 OTA DVR Storage? My personal verified answer is:***Every 128GB = 20Hours OTA DVR on AirTV2***AirTV2 OTA DVR supports a minimum of 50GB and a max of 2TB of USB 2.0 Storage(No USB v3.0).So with this review, that SanDisk 256GB Flashdrive gets you 40Hours of OTA DVR Storage. And yes save your money guys with this USB 2.0 flash drive. When you run the math, don't bother with an External Hard Drive or SSD. This flash drive is fast and perfect.*It has TWO TUNERS built in for your LAN. Meaning Unlimited Local TVs can connect & watch DVR content, but only TWO can simultaneously view Live Streams at once. Gotta juggle it guys, kinda like all our other favorite streaming apps. But it has the ability to use ONE of those streams for "Outside" the Home Cellular/WiFi viewing. A Huge Plus!! You can watch the game from anywhere. :-)Only Pro Tips I'd recommend is put a small piece of black electrical tape over the middle of this USB Flash drive. Keeps the flashing orange LED activity light from view behind the TV. Also GENTLY tighten the coax antenna cord to the device with a Pliers. Coax always finds a way of loosening when it's only "Hand" tightened. A small loose turn, means poor/no reception. I've seen it countless times in my field. Trust me!**Final Notes**If you are subscribed to Sling WITH DVR Service, you are all set. It will integrate with the Sling App.If you don't have Sling, this Perfect Setup here will still work awesome with the Free AirTV App & has NO DVR service fees.EthernetI can't stress this enough. We all love WiFi but it can only handle so much weight. Any "Stationary Device" such as a TV, Blu-Ray Player, Roku Devices, etc, should be if at all possible, connected with an Ethernet Cable. I've seen so many times in a customer's home that the Roku and Game system are sitting 3ft from the modem and they are using WiFi to connect them. Hard line everything with CAT6 Ethernet Cable that can be & you won't believe how much those devices improve and your total overall WiFi experience does. When those bandwidth eating toys get put on a corded connection, everything else Wifi has room to breathe. All in all my Friends, happy cord-cutting. :-)This is my best recommendations for current, Perfect OTA Channels & DVR Setup.

Horrible
Don't buy.Other reviewers warned me but I decided it was worth a shot. Having one app for local over-the-air and cable channels made so much sense -- instead of paying for broadcast TV channels or having to go to two different apps to view "cable" vs. OTA stations. The Sling app is OK -- it's usable. But the AirTV DVR portion does not work. You will NOT be able to record OTA stations. There are tons of people online having the same issues that go back years -- and now me.No support other than telling you to reset the device and start over. My specific problem is error 16-476 which says "temporarily unable to record -- check internet". My internet is obviously working fine. And inexplicably, the USB-attached external drive randomly disappears, forcing re-installation (factory reset) of everything. It's a great idea -- horrible horrible execution. I'm guessing DishNetwork ported their Dishnetwork set top box software over to Android/IOS and they have failed milserably. Meanwhile, the Google guys at YouTube TV are running cirles around them because they started from scratch rather than trying to make 10-20 year old crap work on smartphones and rokus. After 20 hours invested -- I'm returning it. I'll probably try going the SiliconGraphics HomeRun route with Plex, which I'm sure will lead to a new set of hurdles, but Sling/AirTV 2 is NOT even close to being usable.I've used the following: - YoutubeTV: great, but missing Alititde sports (only source for Colo Avalanche, Denver Nuggets) and monthly fees are creeping. Unlimited DVR (9 mos). $76/mo- FuboTV: also great -- includes Altiitude sports but DOESN'T include Turner (TBS, TNT), so no baseball playoffs, hockey or March Madness early rounds. 1000 hrs DVR. $75/mo- DirecTV Stream -- best solution, but $33/mo more expensive than Fubo or YoutubeTV, and like those, you're paying for free OTA stations. Unlimited DVR (9 mos). Unlimited DVR (9 mos). $108/mo with sports.- SlingTV -- cheapest and doesn't include local broadcast channels, but no Altitude sports. It's by far the worst app of the group even without AirTV, with only 50 hrs of recording. $55/mo for Orange and Blue with a pretty solid lineup of essential cable stations.Good luck cord cutters in Colorado who like to watch the Avalanche and Nuggets. $108/mo is as low as it goes (DirecTV Stream). Still beats the heck out of Comcast and DirecTV.

it's a neat little device
This is a hard one. It's a unique device - I guess the closest thing to it is amazon's recast. The integration with Sling app is a great idea, but the software could use some modernizing - it works, but it's kinda' old school clunky moving around in the schedule grid. I just setup an external drive to record over-the-air - it was easy enough to do, but can't comment on reliability of it yet. This is my 2nd one - the first had a poor tuner and where I was pulling in 40+ stations on the TV - an 8 year old budget model - the device pulled in about 20. The replacement works well, however, so don't be shy on trying a replacement if you get inadequate tuning performance. It does put some drag on the signal, similar to using a splitter to share signal with 2 tvs. I don't have the tools to measure it so I don't know how much drop, but it's enough to lose a marginal signal when it transmits over the network. I covered mine with a small 10db booster. After that, it's been very reliable - a good picture, works consistently well inside the sling app in my new and older roku, on my android phone, and on the sling app of a recent-vintage firestick.I set it up briefly on both the 2.4 and 5GHz sides of my network. Obviously, a lot comes into play with network performance, but while it worked ok on the 2.4, there was definitely an improvement putting it on 5; just mentioning that because it's worth playing around with if you get sketchy performance on one.If you're invested in the roku environment, this is definitely worth considering if you want to tie in over-the-air. If I was invested on the firestick side I'd probably try the recast out if I could get a comparable price, but as I mentioned above, this works fine in the app on the firestick, so I sure wouldn't pay double, which is the regular price difference.

Canadians Read Before You Buy
This item won't work without a lot of Home network modifications. The Sling TV app is critical to making this work and is not available in Canada, therefore, I'm not sure why its offered on Amazon Canada. To make it work you need to be very technically inclined. You'll need a high quality VPN provider to make the Sling TV app believe you are in the USA. You'll also need a router that can run OpenVPN to attach the AirTV 2, and any devices you be using the Sling app on (such as a WRT54G with DD-WRT) and an Android device to set it up.If i haven't lost you yet the App allows you to watch and record local Television stations and also watch free Sling channels as well. The recording can only be watched through the Sling App and can't be viewed, transferred or saved to any other system because they have a propriety format and filing system. The app is fantastic an easy to use but forget about viewing anything on your IOS, or Firestick devices if they are registered in Canada
