Vibrator mode most effective
With my Pomeranian, the vibrator mode worked best. The sound mode did not help at all. For the first couple of days when she barked the vibrator went off and it annoyed her very much. She would stop barking and tried to run away from the vibration. Then as she got used to it, she would bark once and quit as soon as the vibration started, but she wouldn't run away. Now she has learned to lower the sound of her barks to just below the volume required to set off the vibration. This is a big help as the barking is not as loud as it was. When she gets more excited she will bark one time at full volume and quit, taking the vibration punishment. If someone rings the doorbell she totally ignores the vibration and barks until we pick her up.As headstrong as my Pomeranian is the device uses up the batteries at a rapid pace. The first set only lasted two weeks, which brings me to another point.I found replacement batteries (Energizer 357) at Winnco, a pack of three for $3. Changing the batteries was difficult. I had to use a set of jeweler's screwdrivers to attempt to open the case, and could not get the screw to turn. As a last resort I pried open the plastic door and replaced the batteries. Then I secured the door with a piece of masking tape. This is a very poor design. A sliding latch would be better. My rating of 3 stars is because the device does it's job but the battery changing difficulty lowered it's score.

Review for Pet TAg Classic No Bark Collar
Review for Pet Tag Classic No Bark Collar, Red, Small http://www.amazon.com/Pet-Classic-Bark-Collar-Small/dp/B002XZ4LGO/ref=pd_rhf_dp_p_t_2The reviews say there is a 50, 50 chance this collar will work on your dog. At this price figured we'd give it a try. Not much more than a dinner out.Been using this collar for 5 months now! Tried this collar using the vibrate mode on low and low and behold, it immediately stops their barking. They have figured out how loud each can grumble (not very loud at all, just enough to let me know someone is around, but at least they don't bark anymore. They really do not like the vibration, and I'm happy it won't hurt our puppies like the "shock" type. The older Classic style (red) vibrate collars go off more frequently when my dogs barked, and they are also physically smaller sized then the Pro version. This collar does the trick on low "vibrate" mode setting. Just startles him or her, and it's keeping them quiet.I'm extremely impressed as to how well this collar is working! I have four ShihTzu's who bark at all unexpected noises, people, other animals and anything else they feel they should bark at. Anyone who has a stubborn puppy knows what I'm talking about. I tried both settings and both were effective in keeping them quiet. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it continues to do the trick and they don't come up with a master plan to outsmart the collar. :) Also, The sensor unit itself is also very lightweight. Overall, I'm very pleased!! Worth every penny!!!I set it on the high vibrate setting and it is like he is a whole different dog. In fact some days I put the collar on him but the switch is in the "off" position and they had not made a peep all day!!! I don't know how it will work on a large dog but for our 4 small dogs who weigh 5, 10, 12, and 16 pounds it has worked miracles :)Our dogs must think they are jewelry. They come right to us when they see us take them from a drawer, stand with their necks stretched out waiting to get it on!The collar strap is a problem for me though. My quick fix --- a long piece of velcro!! Cut off the original nylon collar. Slide a piece of velcro through one side and out the other. Make sure you put the device in the middle of the velcro. Wrap the velcro around dogs neck till it meets the device, take the other long end of velcro on the other side and wrap that over the piece of velcro that you just wrap around, and ... there you have it!!!! The best collar that is a perfect fit, adjustable, made just for your dog!!!Tip...You might need to put fresh batteries in them right away, although mine were fine.L44 watch batteries. Not perfect, but the best small sized bark collar out there
I have a 10 lb JRT and she has a lot to say about everything. Fortunately, she is a very smart girl and learns very quickly. We had the PetSafe bark collar which delivers electric shock and it worked great. After only getting shocked a couple of times, just showing the bark collar was enough to stop her from barking. Also, having the collar on was a great deterrent. She basically knew not to bark if the collar was on. So, the only problem was that the collar has this big box which doesn't work for a 10 lb dog and so I was looking to try something smaller. We tried one of those sound systems with a remote, but that didn't work because the speaker with the sound had to be in the same room with the dog. So, basically, she was barking everywhere outside of the kitchen. Also, the battery on that device did not last, so we returned it. Now, onto this product. I bought it a week ago and I was very concerned about the negative reviews. Here's the truth - yes, it is very very sensitive and you have to be careful with it because it is more sensitive than the shock collar. But my goal with it is not to keep it turned on all the time. My goal is to turn it on enough times that the dog makes the connection between the collar itself and barking. I need this to work as a deterrent, but as a constant on device. So, naturally, the first few days there were issues - it would go off when we played with her because we played an aggressive game and she was totally spooked. We learned to take it off during play time. We also turn it off when we go outside or of there are other dogs around. But even if it misfired, it isn't an electric shock, so not that much harm is being done. No, this is not a magic pill. You have to carefully monitor your dog, but if your pooch is smart he/she will eventually figure out that if the collar is on, then barking is not a good idea. My dog is doing better with it and now she doesn't have a giant box around her neck. you also don't have to refasten it ever time. i just loosen it a bit so that it can go over her head. If the over sensitivity was not there I would have given the product 5 stars, but trust me that there are no better alternatives out there.
