Product Description Do the Walt Disney Imagineers encounter resistance in their work? Of course they do...when it comes to friction! Here the Imagineersshowcase how different types of friction%97static, kinetic, and rolling%97come into play when they're designing Disney's theme park rides and attractions. From rollercoaster wheels for "Big Thunder Mountain Railroad" to the shape of a Disney Cruise Line ship's hull, the Imagineers use tribology (the study of friction) to find ways to reduce drag. Students will learn the different types of friction as well as the roles that gravity and Newton's First Law play in frictional force. Public Performance Rights. Exclusive educational bonus features. Sing-a-long and assessment tools to reinforce key lessons. Review Gr 5-8--High-energy and fast-paced fun makes this DVD a fascinating look at the science of tribology--friction. Disney Imagineers--those who design Disney theme park rides and attractions--showcase how the different types of friction--static, kinetic, and rolling--come into play in the world around us using examples and demonstrations from Disney parks, the Imagineering lab, and Disney Cruise ships. They demonstrate how drag is reduced on Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, how a shuffleboard disk slows to a stop, how the tires on a race car roll on the pavement, how a cruise ship glides through the water with reduced drag and less fuel usage, and more. The well-spoken, energetic host also interviews other Imagineers who explain how their demonstration also pertains to their jobs, giving viewers insight into some fun careers. The DVD includes an interactive quiz on the material presented. There s also a try it yourself experiment and an interactive activity to reinforce key concepts. The teacher s guide includes additional activities, websites, experiments, and more. This high-energy, fast-paced program will entertain and instruct students. --School Library Journal--Cynde Suite, Barstow County Library System, GA

Another great Imagineering video
I get these for my son who's turning 8. While the topics are advanced for his age group, he's fairly advanced but more so can relate to the way they are presented. His take away knowledge is very good as he learns a great deal from them. I enjoy them as well as they are done in a fun way that keeps the interest for the short duration of the video.

Best Science DVD Series!
The DVD's in this series are consistently excellent - a dynamic way to teach science concepts that can be hard to grasp. I love the try-it-yourself experiments, and the interactive assessment game works on both computers and white boards, providing multiple opportunities to reinforce learning. The writing is clear and funny and the host is terrific - he (along with his male and female colleagues of multiple ethnicities) is an excellent role model who helps break down the science geek stereotype. Great show!
