Excellently researched and written book
I really can't add more praise to that which has already been posted, but I wanted to mention how thorough the research for the book was. The author, Peter Evans, is very meticulous, as shown by his many footnotes where he cites sources or adds more information. Given the fame, power, and wealth of the people who are the subject of the book, this was probably a legal necessity, but it adds a credibility to the book. This makes the book's many revelations all the more shocking because in all likelihood they are probably true.I originally bought this book after reading Dominick Dunne's recommendation in Vanity Fair. Now I have the same question Dunne did: Why isn't this book getting more attention? One would think the author would be making all the rounds on the tv shows and that there would be countless newspaper and magazine articles written about the book. The only reason I can think why this hasn't happened is because relatives of the subjects of the book have exerted their power to create a virtual media blackout. Given the scandalous and shocking revelations, I can't really say I blame them.I highly recommend this book. I look forward to the author's next one.

Interesting Reading!
This was a well researched and well written book. I felt that it was historically accurate. For me there were some revelations.

The surprise in the book is breathtaking
Whether you treat this as accurate history (I do) or as a crime novel, the surprise the author slowly leads up to is well worth the long read. I am sorry that many Kennedy family fans will feel sad or disillusioned by this book (and others like it, such as Hersh's "The Dark Side of Camelot") but the evidence is now overwhelming, from a variety of sources, that they were not nice people. Indeed, this is a good study book to show how a managed public image can be completely different than the person's real persona. If you like politics and Sopranos type drama, this is a must read.

it was a terrific read.
This book is fascinating and covers subject matter which intrigues me no end. However, the writing is such that the reader wishes the author had a dictionary or thesaurus at hand. The author seems to have a pathological attachment to the word "simply." I don't know, maybe it's me, but seeing this word twice in one sentence and six times on another page makes me wonder. At any rate, Onassis was a force to be reckoned with. Except for the author's vocabulary limitations, it was a terrific read.

This Book Will Forever Change Your Worldview
Were this book not so well cited by too many people in positions to know...well...I wouldn't believe one word of it. But Peter Evans did his work with scrupulous attention to detail: he named people, times and places, and has direct quotes. As much as I love the Camelot illusion of the 60s, what I now know for truth is JFK was an ailing womanizer propped up by a ruthless father's money and an equally ruthless younger brother's brash acts. Bobby was venal and mean, using the Office of Attorney General to dispose of Kennedy opposition. Jackie was nothing more than a high-class courtesan who loved money more than anything else in the world with the possible exception of her children. She knowingly stabbed her sister Lee in the back using sex to gain grasp on the Onassis fortune, and this was before Jack was assassinated. Bobby either killed Marilyn Monroe or behaved in a way that caused her to kill herself...then got the hell out of town before the police arrived over six hours after the body was found. It might be a stretch to believe that Onassis paid for the killing of Robert Kennedy until you see the incredible treachery woven through the almost incestuous relationships of the jet set and their sycophants. Just consider the fact that Tina Livanos Onassis married her brother-in-law Stavros Niarchos after he beat her sister Eugenie to death and then stuffed her throat full of barbiturates to make it look like an overdose. Power. Sex. Money. They create strange bedfellows and even stranger business arrangements. America lost her innocence on November 22, 1963; I lost mine upon reading this book. Highly recommended by a former acquisitions librarian.

No One Is Spared
There is so much "dirt" in this book, that one almost wants to take a shower after reading it. No one is spared. Onassis, Jackie, JFK, Bobby, Christina, Marilyn, Maria Callas, and almost everyone with whom they came in contact comes off as sleazy, disreputable, and worse...far worse. There are some eye-opening theories, such as the "Manchurian Candidate" programming of Sirhan Sirhan. I might have scoffed at this, but after the events of 9/11, I would have to believe that anything is possible in this world. I first heard of this book through Liz Smith's column, and that's what puzzles me about it. With so many bombshells about so many important people, why wasn't this book at the top of the best seller list for months? Why wasn't the author on all the talk shows? In short, why was there so little publicity? Is it because most people think it's merely tabloid trash, without much validity, or just the opposite...so accurate that no one wants to touch it? Read it, and decide for yourself.

Excellent
A very interesting account of Aristtle Onassis life. The biographer spent many hours talking to Onassis himself. I really recommend it.

not what you expect
A cracking story of intrigue and foul play by people you expect to be moral pillars of society but are in fact morally bankrupt.

WOW, highly researched, full of intrigue and fascinating facts regarding Kennedy's and Onassis. A must read.
Well , be prepared to drop all your long held presumptions of Camelot. Jack, Bobby Jackie all shed their sainthood status. Very well researched and makes fabulous reading. Affairs and corruption of the highest order. We all knew Oasis was a scoundrel, a v. corrupt man but Jackie sold herself to the highest bidder, stealing her sister Lee's lover, did her affair with Onassis begin prior to Kennedy's assination. Did Onassis really pay for Bobby's assination? Was it a real Mancurian Candidate story. It is all here, CIA, FBI, PLO, corruption, assinations, betrayal, drug running, country takeovers. What if anything separates Kennedy's from Onassis in their hunger for power? Are the 'good guys' as corrupt as their enemies?
