The description of Turkey from Byzantine Empire to establishment of the Turkish Republic is written in a very wonderful n descriptive words. It tells who are the Turks and where did they came from. Also wonderful is the description of the Ottoman Empire.

I read it before leaving for Turkey and it helped me well to track the history of the historical and majestic heritage of Istanbul. It made me look more well informed in front of even the guides.

The quality of the product is good, however coming to the content- I am not satisfied with the approach of the author. The timeline is quite wavering and goes back and forth multiple times causing great confusion. Moreover it seems like the author is set to compare islamic influences with western influences, primarily degenerating the former one. When reading on a great country’s history- one does not expect such tendencies in the alleged- ‘short history’! Much more could have been mentioned about the historical monuments and insightful public styles and stories. To summarise- its a factual write-up with barely any references which leads to lot of googling on the side and no binding instances that hook you to the book.
