Lucia, Saint of Light

Gorgeous Saint Lucy Book!!!!!!!
As a Catholic mother of 6 I LOVE this book!!! Such a beautifully illustrated and beautifully written book that accurately describes the life of one of the most amazing Saints!!!Secular reviewers may not have liked the truth of this book however it is 100% historically accurate. I like how the story starts out with a Swedish Mother teaching her children about the traditions and deep meaning behind why the Swedes celebrate Santa Lucia and why they love her!! Although the country of Sweden is not Catholic the Swedes love the hope they found in the cold, dark Scandinavian north with this Saint of light who brought them bread when they were starving. The mother gives the very cute but secular traditions of serving lussekater and coffee and the oldest girl dressing as the Lucia bride with a candle crown. While this is all nice and cute, Saint Lucy was a Virgin martyr for the Catholic faith and the story so nicely tells of all the good she did and hardships she suffered all for her love of Christ! Hence she dresses in white for purity and a red sash to symbolize her martyrdom. Meaning throughout the book for Catholics who know their faith💕.The book is a lovely mix of traditions and faith and the music at the back is outta this world!!! My son played it on the piano and my other children sang along. The lyrics are beautiful and meaningful. If you are looking to add some meaning and celebrate this great Saint’s feast day in December I highly recommend this book!!!! You will not be sorry. My children love celebrating Santa Lucia as well as Saint Nicholas in early and mid-December as these Saints bring so much meaning and depth leading to Our Saviors birth only a few weeks after!!!!

Lovely into to this Catholic saint’s feast day
Lovely illustrations and, in my opinion, a heart-warming dialogue between a mother and daughter about the life of St. Lucia and the origins of the traditions surrounding her feast day. A wonderful way to introduce our children to this saint and feast day in our Catholic family. Others have complained that the dialogue seemed awkward or the message too preachy, but I did not find that to be the case. I mean, it’s about a Catholic saint. How can the story NOT be religious?? It does not go into great depth about the origins of each tradition, but gives just enough background to make it interesting for young kids and provides a good foundation to do more of your own research into the details if desired.

Wonderful explanation of St. Lucia story and traditions!
We are very happy with this book because it explains both the origins of the St. Lucia story and her martyrdom as well as the modern day traditions that are common among Swedes today. Included are the traditional St. Lucia song with music and also a recipe for saffron buns. It answered a lot of questions I had about the holiday and is an interesting story! The only thing I didn't care for were some of the supernatural descriptions of St. Lucia and her survival/death/miracles. However, since that is how the legend goes it makes sense for it to be in the book. Definitely read through first before reading it to kids to make sure it gets with your beliefs.

my 4 year old loves it
Both my 3 and 4 year old love this book. I think that they appreciate the pictures and are curious of this is also a tradition we should start at home. It covers the saint in the context of a little girl who's family celebrates the feast of St. Lucy every year with some traditions of cooking and the lighted wreath.
