Clean & Sober [DVD]

Great movie. I liked Michael Keaton in Beetlejuice and Love him in this movie. Michael Keaton is a great actor and it didn't even seem like he was really acting. Great role for him to play. It is very romantic, too.

I like that this film shows examples of what can go wrong with people if don't deal with their problems with alcohol and illegal drugs. Plus, showing why rehab is the place to be to handle them. And even though some of the ways to get rid of unneeded drugs completely recommended, it's still worth owing.

Often in therapy you can give a message to a client without them putting their defenses up IF they don't realize YOU are giving them the message. A movie can do this for you. Parents trying to warn and teach their children are stopped short by their teens already having decided that parents don't know anything about what they are talking about. This movie by an actor known for his honesty, reliability, and dedication to the essence of the story he is trying to tell with his acting can put that message out. The acting is good. The situations real. The photography perfect for the story. The story intense and never loses your attention, even if you aren't personally involved with drugs or addiction. There are some bad words, but not too many. There is some nudity but it is not sexual and it is totally real and appropriate and not overly exposed. There is one sexual situation at the beginning but it is inert, and WILL reinforce that casual sex is probably NOT a great idea especially combined with drugs. Some movies are good, even very good; but you don't really want to watch them again. This movies is the kind that you WILL want watch again and again. I think because the acting, story and the action is so good, more so than anything else.

If you missed it way back when, now is the chance to pick up this emotional marvel on DVD. Keaton was on a roll back in the 80s and into the 90s with his comedies (Night Shift, Mr. Mom, Gung Ho, Beetlejuice, Dream Team, etc) & action (Batman I & II, One Good Cop)..but is often overlooked for his dramatic and heart wrenching turn as an adict in Clean & Sober. He flexes his dramatic muscles in this tale of a simple man with a not so simple problem..that is booze and cocaine. Walk in his shoes as he tries to escape life's troubles by hiding out in rehab, which we see with celebs today is all too common, only for Keaton's character to find out that it may be just the place he needed to go, to really sort out who he is and how he got there. Morgan Freeman costars, not as God actually in this one, but as a fellow adict. Check it out. May not be the happiest of endings, the good guy doesn't always get the girl, beat the baddie, or leave the audience in stiches of laughter, but Keaton can do all those things too. You don't wanna miss this one if you are a Michael Keaton fan.

This is an excellent movie about the trials and tribulations of getting clean and sober. I am 37 years sober and this movie is an excellent reminder of what one has to go through to get sober. Very well written, characters were well developed, dialog was on point and realistic. Michael Keaton should have gotten an Oscar for this performance, he was great, can't see anyone else doing that role and making it work so well.

Keaton's best and most underrated role in my opinion.

I was looking for a movie that would appeal to someone in recovery, which this movie did not.

It is an old movie but in an effort to be learning about addiction because of someone in my life. I liked it. Interesting to see how far we have come as a society in general IE: smoking. Not the best movie ever but we liked it and it is informational about addiction
