MICROBE-LIFT Professional Gravel & Substrate Cleaner for Freshwater and Saltwater Tanks, 4 Ounces

I was a little concerened about this being a dark color and it clouded my water. My concern was if it would harm my fish. I did half the reccommended treatment for a 55 gallon tank and it worked pretty good.

I have always used a substrate cleaner in my aquarium. I vacuum my gravel regularly (once a week or so), and this keep is pretty clean, but you never know what you miss, so I use substrate cleaner. I decided to try this one because of the great reviews. According to the directions, you are supposed to use it every other water change, which I suppose is reasonable. The worst part of this cleaner is that it is a BLACK liquid. According to the bottle it is supposed to be black and is 100% biological. It does impart a black tint to the water, but it goes away in a few minutes. All in all, though, I cannot tell if it has done anything to clean my substrate. I am switching to a new product.

I had purchased this recently as previously I was using W.O.W. from Petsolutions and that product has been dis-continued. I wish I knew about this before. Microbe-lift gravel cleaner works great. As other reviewers have stated, when you first put this in your tank, it looks like ink and will turn your water very dark. This lasted for 4 days the first time I used it and then it cleared up quicker the second time and only lasts for 3 days. What a change though. This cleaned my substrate and it is very clear now and the water looks crystal clear. I have a 46 gallon tank but I do have great filtration with two Rena Canister XP filters. I would say the better your filtration, the faster the water will clear but this stuff does work. If you have a dirty tank or substrate, I would highly recommend Microbe-lift Gravel Cleaner. If you have that problem, just have some patience and this will work. A must buy for Aquarium maintenance.

This is the second bottle I’ve bought. The first one l had a really hard time opening the bottle. Once I finally did and used the product I really liked it. It does what it’s supposed to. Unfortunately I couldn’t get the lid back on. So after a while I just ordered another bottle thinking it was just the one and the next one should be fine. Well it wasn’t. With the help of my husband we opened it and came up with another lid to keep it. So, be prepared for a fight with the lid if you want to use this product.

I like the product and it completely does what it's supposed to do. The mixture smells so bad, so its best to just treat and put the lid on...

I have used this for a few years with no detriment to the fish.It really does do what it says.When the gravel starts to get a lot of buildup just add this according to instructions and do a water change.

It took about 6 days but this stuff really works. I wish I took a before picture because the results were remarkable. Not just the substrate but it also cleaned all the decorations

I do not recommend. This stuff killed 6 of my fish within 24 hours of treatment.
