Grobet USA Parallel Action Pliers, Light, Flat Nose, Smooth, 5"

Listen I'll keep this short and sweet for you. I'm recognized by most knife nuts as STR which is my initials. I've done pretty well for myself making pocket clips out of sheet titanium for some years now. While I don't set the world on fire its steady and I do it using hand tools. Recently due to getting old I guess my hands cramp some and I thought to look at new tools to see what I could find. This plier came up. Now I've used something very similar to this plier for many years and thought it was a great tool. All it says on it is GFC and above that T8 and below that England. Its well made and looks almost just like this. You don't see the difference until you get this Grobet 46.512 plier tool in your hand to compare the two. Its apparent both are well made. For what I do though where I'm making a pocket clip for a folding knife that will be exposed and seen its nice to have a tool that does the job and works without marring up the surface you are working and bending.My GFC pliers have worked for years but they always left a line that I would have to work to make disappear before calling my work done which is probably due to how narrow they jaws are so instead of grab the piece and hold it flat, these thinner pliers sort of roll on the piece indenting it slightly. I knew on the first use of these pliers here that I'd been using the wrong tool to make the initial bend in my clips all these years! Not only do the jaws of this plier fit in easier than my other plier but they hold a larger foot print or surface area with the wider jaws and when you bend a small piece of metal or titanium there is no mark due to that nice large flat surface cradling the piece in a wide jaw that supports it to make the bend! I was floored and have to say these are the best I've used and I highly recommend them to anyone doing light to medium gauge metal bending in tight spaces. Either of these pliers are great for jewelry and other wire bending work and such but for my clips out of .045 thickness 6AL-4V titanium the wider ones excel. There is another set sold here that I bought besides these and it was priced at like 18 bucks plus shipping at this writing. These are okay, not as good as my GFC set labeled T8 but certainly heavier duty I'd say since the handle is ample. I wouldn't rebuy them though and they don't compare to these pliers here. These are heavy duty pliers also and they can really hold something securely without damaging it unlike the other pair I've used for many years with narrower jaws.These are the ones you want. Stop looking and buy it.STR

Great pliers. Smooth jaw a must for jewelry makers and working with metal. Have several other of this brand and they have held up well.

These arrived defective (the parallel jaws were not parallel--I could see daylight between the jaws, which closed at an angle. However, upon phoning Grobet, they found a properly aligned pair and shipped the replacement for free. I will try to remember to update after they arrive. I purchased these because I had used an older pair and loved them. Those were excellent, heavy duty, did not damage my thin metal sheet or wire.

These pliers are worth every penny! They can take all the abuse you can dish out and will just laugh at you when you're done.

They're not made quite as well as I hoped. They are parallel when you squeeze them closed, but if you look closely when they're not quite closed, the jaws aren't parallel. Maybe it doesn't matter. Maybe I'm being too picky. They are very nice, but I expected a little better.

Did not like at all

I use these for working on guns. When you need to grip a small part or pin, and don't want the jaws of your normal pliers to apply an angled force to them and possibly damage the part, this type of pliers is a must.Nice quality, very strong. I love them!!
