Certainly the best book on Mind Body Syndrome, TMS, PPD, etc. as of 2019
As of 2019, this is certainly the most robust book on what is variously referred to as Mind Body Syndrome, Tension Myositis Syndrome, and now Psychophysiologic Disorder (and other terms). Truly exciting to see such a cross-discipline and international cohort of practitioners organizing together to create this high quality resource for mind-body syndrome disorders.A note on format and style: this is probably not the book I would give the average person struggling with mind-body syndrome symptoms. It is written for a more practitioner / specialist audience. Some of the content is a bit specialized and over my head, though a lot of it is fascinating and accessible with careful reading. This is more so the type of book I would hand my Doctor for them to do their own research. For lay-people seeking a point of entry into understanding Mind Body Syndrome, this book can be a useful resource. But if you are specifically seeking support in addressing your medical symptoms I would point you towards Howard Schubiner, David Clark, and / or David Schechter (all of whom are collaborators on this book in addition to having published their own writings).

Easy to Understand
Thought this would be a challenging medical read, but it is written so anyone suffering from these illnesses can follow the logic and research. The book is made up of several essays by a variety of writers and includes real life examples of patients who have recovered under these protocols. Very encouraging!

Goldmine of insights
This book is a goldmine of insights, both from clinical practice and research, into the nature and treatment of “psychophysiologic disorders” (PPD). PPD is not only more common that people realize but is more central to how the human psyche works than almost anyone seems to understand. It’s exciting and gratifying to see such a diverse array of both physical medicine and mental health experts collaborating in such a project as this. What emerges is a book that is just chock a block full of all kinds of interesting and compelling ideas and treatment approaches. I speak both as a psychologist practicing in this area and a PPD sufferer. Highly recommended!

There are a variety of authors that offer different perspectives and Treatment orientations of healing Chronic Pain. Both practitioners and those with chronic pain would benefit from reading this book.

Excellent!
I purchased this book and bought a second one for my physician. Every health care practitioner should read this text! So much valuable information for both clinicians and patients! As a health care practitioner myself, I hope that this book finds itself in the hands of clinicians who can make changes in the way we practice medicine and transform health care and indeed improve the lives of many. Thank you for pulling all this information together and writing this book!

Fantastic book for anyone who works with people in pain!
As an academic clinician I am constantly striving to stay on top of the literature to ensure both up to date teaching but also to ensure the clinical practices of my team are grounded in current pain science. I learned of this book through a collaboration with the University College Cork in Ireland. I have to say the synthesis of information, from different providers, thus different perspectives, both reaffirmed my current understanding of pain science and enhanced it as the information is so digestible. In particular, the chapter that discusses pregnancy-related pelvic girdle pain was incredibly helpful as was the associated case. We are lacking evolve pain perspectives for this clinical presentation so the information in this book is gold. I enthusiastically recommend and have purchased several other copies for colleagues of mine.

A fascinating overview of a burgeoning field
I thoroughly enjoyed this book, which features a range of professionals from disparate specialties discussing the latest research and approaches surrounding a newly emerging field of medicine. Each specialist brings their own understanding to bear upon the topic, and the prose is accessible enough that the basic concepts come across for a lay person in a clear and succinct manner. I particularly enjoyed the sections about the neuroscience aspect of the condition but each chapter had unique and interesting insights, which started to connect up to each other as the book progressed and the bigger picture of the condition and the modalities used to treat it emerged from that. I only hope that the book can find a wide readership, as it appears to be an area which has been neglected by mainstream medicine for too long and is ripe for further exploration and development. This book is an excellent primer of some of the work of the leading figures in this exciting new field, and will encourage you to seek out further work by each of the individual contributors.

A must-read for anyone in the world of chronic pain and other PPDs
I am so grateful to the contributors of this book! I bought it to learn more about PPDs as I await additional education to change careers (so as to work in this field after being someone who managed chronic PPDs for many, many years) and it exceeded my expectations! It answered all of my questions about PPDs in a very easy to use format. Very clearly written.

This Book Is Changing My Life
This book is changing my life. I've been a chronic pain sufferer for years. I thought there was no end in sight. This book educates you on what PPD is and how to beat it. Getting your head round it all can take a bit of work but it is 1000% worth it. Once you understand what is going on everything starts to make sense. You understand why its happening and how you can fix it.I am now lucky enough to be working with Mags Clark-Smith on fixing my chronic pain. I have made more progress with Mags than I have had with any of the numerous expensive medical treatments I have had.I highly recommend this book to anyone who has chronic pain. It will change your life.

Excellent for layperson or diagnostician
Well written and informative. It is very sad that our medical system is in such a hurry to diagnose structural pain that they too often miss the real story.
