"I thought the story was simple, yet effective."
I received an ARC from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. My thoughts and opinions are my own. Any quotes I use are from an unpublished copy and may not reflect the finished product. The Perfect Seat was a really sweet book that I thoroughly enjoyed reading with my monsters. They're always fighting over who gets to sit in my lap, since everyone's too big now to comfortably share the space (my lap and the chair). I've tried reading to them individually, but all three of them want to listen as soon as there's a book in my hand. Life problems, right? Haha! I'm not going to complain about this one though.I thought the story was simple, yet effective. It conveys a sense of playfulness when viewed from the child's perspective, while also showing an adult's frustration when circumstances are not exactly right. We see the child in this book being flexible -- too flexible at times -- and how they were less defeated by the perceived failures. The illustrations were very unique and eye-catching! I liked how some of the book was in color, while other aspects were just stencils and outlines. There were also images that looked like they'd been cut out and then pasted onto the pages, which was distracting in the best way. All of this added a depth to the pictures that really enhanced the overall story.I highly recommend The Perfect Seat, and already know a few nieces and nephews that will be getting this as a gift next month! Side note: I was supposed to review this book on the 8th, but there were distribution issues that caused a delay.Originally posted at Do You Dog-ear? on November 15, 2019.

short, sweet & super cute!
Short, sweet and super cute! The Perfect Seat would appeal, I think, to both of my nephews – one is 4 1/2 and the other is 2. The brevity of each page’s text is ideal for squirmy kiddos with a small attention span; but the adorable & whimsical illustrations elevate the text even further to hold the attention of slightly older siblings and parents. Charming book! Would be a great Christmas gift for pre-K – Kindergarten age children.(I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book)

charming and simple read
With charming illustrations and a simple plot, this picture book is a delight for young readers from infants through preschoolers. The premise is that a child asks his father (both are moose) to read a book, and he will do so once they find the perfect seat. The book then presents adjectives/superlatives to describe the seats they find (e.g. too wide, too big, too small, etc.) before they locate the perfect seat. I was particularly excited to see a father in the book, as these are less common finds, and would make a great gift for a father to share with their child. The illustrations are colorful and illustrate the text perfectly. There are also relatively few words per page, which make it go quickly and can appeal to the youngest of readers. Whether learning adjectives, enjoying animals, or considering a quick read, this picture book is lovely choice. Please note that I received an e-ARC. All opinions are my own.

Sweet story
Expressive illustrations and sparse text make this the perfect read aloud! A father and son try to find the perfect seat to read a book together. Sweet story and great for kids who don't want to sit for long!

Sweet!
As book lovers know, finding the right place to read is important! So it's understandable that Papa Moose and his little boy look high and low for just the right spot. Young kids will enjoy the humor, the cozy ending, and learn a bit about opposites along the way. Cute story, adorable art.
