The deception of THE DECEIVER.
The war to end all wars, well that what was intended against the modern drug cartels carries on under this banner on many fronts, brilliantly thought out, and expertly presented. The plot and counter counter plot (repetition intended) should mean you can not put this book down unit it's finished and then you turn the last page and there is no more. Descriptive to the point of having been there. Not too much gore and sex but those would not have enhance the story anyway. Enjoy I did. The Deceiver

Three out of four ain't bad.
Mr Forsyth at his nearly best.Basically four short stories make up the main story which is the life and times of Sam, a fixer for the British Government.Three of the short stories are excellent, no more or less than you would expect from the master of espionage. The final story is a nice final get out of the job yarn. Not like the first three and not as good but a nice way to finish for the great Sam.

You will not be deceived if you read this.
Forsyth is always a good read, I read this whilst having IV treatment in our emergency department, it was such a good page turner I did not see the time - an hour each time - go by. His story line is straight forward with subtle twists and turns to keep the reader alert!Malcolm D. Griffiths

Informative. Tense. Interesting.

A book well worth reading
This book is just so interesting - it is an inside account of what a spy has to handle and go through in his or her career. It is quite realistic and the plot with its examples of spy life is so enthralling that you have to keep reading to find out what happens and also feel a real empathy with Sam McCready who has done such a good job and is now being put out to pasture and the injustice of punishing an able and intelligent person.

I loved the fast movement and the lurking secrets and the constant uncertainty of the climax.

Forsyth finds a new angle
Set up as a play, Forsyth allows different glimpses into world of secret intelligence. His attention to detail is amazing, and sometimes suffocating, but I at least always found enough air to force myself to the next page. Any book which keeps you completely hooked until physical exhaustion intervenes deserves five stars, and this was the effect The Deceiver had on me. The fact that the Deceiver's termination was a done deal only amplified that politics always trumps reality.

Book of suspense and reality
Mr. Forsyth predicted the new wave of international crimes storming the world in 21 th century, *crowned* with Putin’s attempts to divide and crash Europe.

C'est un livre en plusieurs parties
Très bon livre. Un peu troublant au début puis les histoires s'enchaînent et plus on avance dans la lecture plus on y prend plaisir et moins on a envie de lâcher le livre.

Good romp
I've never read any Forsyth before. Someone recommended this (or a part of it) recently and I thought I'd give it a go. What I liked was that it's very authentic in the sense I suppose that's how spying goes on nowadays (though the part I've read is set in the eighties). But he does this in a very clever way. I know nothing about the secret services (SIS, CIA etc) and too much jargon would have put me off but this explains everything as it goes along. Perhaps if I read this stuff all the time I would be irritated at all the explanation but for a novice it's perfect. Also the story is very engaging and a real page-turner. I would highly recommend it if, like me, you like a good story but have not gone for this author before because you feel you don't know enough about the background/setting.
