I don't understand all the 5 star reviews
Granted I stopped reading about half way in, which is rare for me. (Maybe 1 in 10 books) It just felt so pedestrian. The issue might be with me because it seems the book was written for a much younger and sexually frustrated audience than I expected. If you're a male teen you might enjoy this. Otherwise, it really is a slightly below average young male fantasy novel.

Good start to a new series
A dragon that breathes sparkles instead of fire? Okay, sounds silly, and okay... it really is. But that's okay, our hero (the shapeshifting dragon) has other abilities that make up for it.This story is WAAY more of a "slow-burn" compared to the author's typical works... and frankly, for me that's perfectly okay. This is the first of an obvious series, so a lot of the story is setting up the world, main players, mechanics, and so forth, but it has a lot of promise. I'll be honest, I was tempted to only give this 4 stars since the story doesn't go very far in the first book... but I suspect that things will ramp up quickly in subsequent volumes. And since the author is a solid writer of good books, I'm going to give him the benefit of that extra star here and give it a 5, because I'm hoping the series gets enough traction that more books DO get written!)Hot magical priestess, check.Various demi-human girls, check.Various evil bad guys plotting downfall of the world, check.Mysterious lost library in a near-deserted city, check.Weird magical abilities of the somewhat OP main character, check.Dragons! Check.Hits enough of the important tropes to have lots of promise.

A few nitpicks
Honestly, not a bad read. Although the writing comes across as amateurish at times, the plotline is decent. There are several scenes where the setting suddenly changes in the middle of the paragraph, and a few inconsistencies of action (MC stands up to pace nervously, and a sentence later someone is leaning against the chair he is in).The MC claims to have anger problems, but other than a few moments where he gets mad only to suddenly, and seemingly without effort calm himself, it doesn't even register as a plot point. The action felt rushed, as did the overall pacing of the story. We end up left with more questions than answers. Not in a good way. There is virtually nothing known about the world, MC demonstrates borderline Mary Sue powers at times, and the final confrontation has him trying to pull a typical isekai "redeem the villain when I swore to rip his heart out" dialogue. It doesn't happen, but I won't spoil why.Overall I think the author has a solid story base to build from if they slow down, add in a little more detail, and work on smoothing scene transitions. I do like how the MC had to deal with increasing bouts of "dragon instincts", but I felt more could have been done with that.If you like stories where the main character is a dragon, set in a world of "cultivation" (quotes because it is mentioned as generic background info), you might enjoy it. I don't regret picking it up.

First book I couldn't finish in a while
I was pretty harsh with my rating mostly because I've read it all before it uses almost every trope of the transported to another world novels which makes it pretty boring. I tried to force myself to get through but the MC was just so generic and boring. Not something I thought I'd say when he's a dragon. The biggest problem I had while reading was that I was comparing this book to other similar story's( as in the MC is a dragon) and wishing I was reading them instead.

Great premise ruined by mediocrity / Good RPGs does not equal a good story
I heard good things about this book, and the premise sounds like a really good idea, and frankly I was in the mood for an overpowered main character. But it's execution from a great and solid start quickly gets more and more SOD breaking. I made it to the 3rd to last chapter as I write this review.First, how does a 300+ page kindle book become a less than 8 hour audio book?? Were scenes cut out of the audio? I did check a few times to make sure because there were many logic jumps the MC makes that just don't make sense no matter how much self-narration the MC does for himself and us. Second, at the same time there are several obvious plot hooks that are never picked up on for most of the book. Third, things just happen to move the plot along with little real character development. And by this I mean both action and sex scenes seem thrown in just to distract the reader about the lack of depth to the story. This is not a bad book, but it's not worth the $12.50 for kindle and audio. It reads like a D&D adventure where the Dungeon Master made this great and nuanced campaign, but the players just want to be 'awesome' and slobber over women. And so the DM just puts his face in his hands and lets the players have fun while letting all the campaign hooks and plots be tossed aside. At least until he gets frustrated at the players BS and starts throwing demonic vampire behemoths at them, because why not!? :P

Nothing Compelling Here
Evan is fairly happy working as an EMT. He likes helping people and he'sgood at it. His aunt may have grandiose and mysterious stories about thefamily history, but that's her thing. Of course his aunt does run anantique store, and Evan does need a costume for a party, so fate bringshim to the shop when she has just acquired a somewhat mysterious set ofitems from ancient China, including a dragon costume with mask.Trying it on, Evan is suddenly able to see *into* the antique mirror in thestoreroom, and hear cries for help. Stepping through, he finds he is adragon in truth, and caught up in a magical second world with lots of troubles.Luckily he still likes helping people and one of those in trouble happens tobe a beautiful princess..I found this one to be very awkwardly written in places, and not verycompelling. The fact that Evan is an EMT and that this colors his outlookeven as a dragon was an interesting touch, but not enough to carry the book, and I will not be reading the followups.I did like the scene where Evan tries to breathe fire and finds hespews out a wave of rainbow healing glitter instead. "What, am Isome kind of *Party Dragon*!?"

Brilliant new series
Really enjoyed this book and honestly can't wait for book 2. It quite unique even as it blends familiar tropes and genres together.

R18+ and meh story
I bought this book because it initially was a nice cover, and the short description was reading also niceNow i have read the first book here and im astonished how quickly that took a 180-U-Turn for the worseSo we begin with "hey, im human, and then boom im a dragon in another world"Thats nice so far, also how the learning progresses is niceBut quickly after that we get into the stage of "hey i can transform into a human to make writing and story easier" and that is the culprit that makes it really badIn this Dragon book, we have 4 scenes in dragon form, from that are only 2 fleshed out and the rest is just a quick mentioning. Thats already quite a bad thing for me since thats just a sign of "hey i ahve dragons in my book, but only for a littlebit of time because writing about humans as all the others is easier"Sorry, but easy also means not as enjoyableThen, 2nd Reason why i disliked that bookBecause that boy is more thinking about sinking his lower parts in others then anything else!Like my GOD either let them have a good oompf and then be good with it, or dont do R18 without declaring it as porn!it really isnt nice to read it once in every 5 sites about how its all his and how he wants to ooompf them all and basically have a harem with the whole city!So yeah, initially it was good, but after 10-15% of the book it was downhill quite quicklyI will give the 2nd book a chance, and hope for more dragon action without letting the larry hang out, or if then atleast as dragon....But really, how it is right now it wont get more then 2 stars from me

Another piece of gold from Eric Vall
I have been a fan of Eric Vall's work for some time now and seeing a new offering i was excited to see where this story would go. Personally, I believe this to be his best work to date. The world building is spectacular, the characters are likeable, relatable and well fleshed out from the beginning. The premise is typical of litrpg style books with the mc being teleported to a new world. The biggest twist to other little style books that i have read is that the mc is now a dragon, with dragon tendencies. I am now eagerly awaiting book two.
