Loved the movie.

I absolutely love Gwyneth Paltrow and John Hannah in this charming romantic comedy. It's definitely offbeat, and explores the idea of paralell universes. Ever wondered what your life would be like if you made just one choice differently? Branching off from one single event (a parent pulling a little girl out of a woman's way on the subway), Helen's life is drastically changed. In one scenario, she stays with her two-timing boyfriend (who is an absolute jerk, but manages to come off as slightly charming), and in the other, she meets a new man named James (John Hannah, in my favorite male hero character ever!). The movie is funny and cute, and manages also to be terribly interesting - the viewer watches the two universes travel farther and farther apart, wondering how the director will bring the two universes back together. He successfuly does so, in a surprising and bittersweet finale that leaves the viewer uncertain whether to cry or cheer. This is one of those great, rare movies that manages to be deep as well as entertaining, and I give it my highest reccommendations. Well done!

The casting in this movie is really great. Only one weak character, in many ways, and that is the shallow, two-timing bloke the main character "HELEN" has chosen to live with. English movie and the accents are charming....that is if one has closed captions. The other main male lead has a heavy Scottish (I think) accent, but he is really charming and plays the part so very well. The difficult task of keeping the two story lines apart and flowing is done very, very well. One does not get lost due to the craftsmanship of the editors of the film. This is an enjoyable story about a frustrated young woman who catches a train........misses a train at the same time and from there the stories evolve. Delightful humor, well acted. Just a fun hour and a half or so.

Comes with an interesting feature length documentary narrated by the writer and director, who happens to be an excellent story teller. A must have for collectors looking for a deeper story about the film's creation.

A very interesting and overlooked movie! The only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is the subtlety; the essence of the story is hard to convey. It basically shows the parallel lives of Gwyneth Paltrow, two distinct "possible" life paths, both fully lived, each separated by a mere second of coincidence because of the "Sliding Doors" on a subway... Highly thought-provoking and you really have to watch the movie at least twice to pick up the visual cues used to show her different lives. In one path, she chooses a guy who is a jerk and in the other, a decent guy, but the the true irony of of the story is the ending, where... as real life often is... surprising and unfair... I highly recommend it.

Great love story. It you are looking for a movie that show you how life can be so different from our little decision, check this out. This is a good movie but be warned, you may cry a little. Sliding Doors (DVD): Mainstream movie just barely crosses into the parallel universe sci-fi sub-genre. As an old school nerd, I'm glad I got the disc. It loads & plays fine in my Panasonic player, through a mid-level Sony amp, into a 55" Vizio OLED tv.

The premise of this movie is fascinating, change one small action, one decision or mistake,and it can irrevocably alter a person's destiny. This movie allows the viewer to actually see the alternative reality of different choices. The movie works because of a strong cast. Paltrow plays her dual role skillfully. John Lynch plays a hapless cad, but he is not mean-spirited, and many of the most comedic moments are his. Despite his actions, he is fun to watch. This is a highly entertaining and engaging drama with a big message and much heart. It is an underrated gem worth your time that will make you think and make you smile.

Bought this as a gift for a friend. She loved it. It was our movie. Great buy great movie

Come da aspettativa. Bel film, tipico humor britannico ma con un profonda verità celata: per tutti, per chi sa e per chi vuole vedere una commedia ben congegnata a livello di sceneggiatura.Come da titolo: ottimo!

Il tutto si regge sull'attrice protagonista con vari comprimari attorno. Niente di speciale.

グイネスパルトローが一番綺麗だった頃の映画です。ストーリーがよく練られていて最後まで飽きる事なく観ることができました。髪の毛を切る前と切った後での洗練され方の違いが面白いです。

Ce n'est pas Pile OU Face, dans ce cas l'héroïne aurait-elle choisi ? Mais Pile ET Face où le cinéaste la place devant un destin qu'elle ne choisit pas.Ce cinéaste (Peter Hewitt) nous trace avec virtuosité le sort de la même personne qui, à un quart de seconde près aurait été totalement différent. Cette seconde histoire fictive est imbriquée dans celle de sa vraie vie, les deux histoires sont passionnantes. mais surtout à travers ces diverses situations, il peint deux portraits différents de la femme trahie par son amant...On peut avoir vu ce film pour la première fois en salle et s'être dit que le déroulement d'une histoire ne tient qu'à un fil (oui, certainement, c'est une évidence !), mais le DVD nous offre le temps de réfléchir sur les puissants portraits qui sont fait de deux hommes et d'une femme sous deux facettes de sa personnalité....Un des hommes John Hannah (celui qui nous a tiré des larmes lors de l'enterrement de 4 mariages et 1 enterrement) est l'homme très bien (honnête pas très franc quand même) qui est presque au bord de rater l'occasion de sa vie , mais tout repartira au point de départ grâce à une boucle d'oreille!L'autre homme, pas un très grand salaud, mais un très grand menteur et qui ne saura pas dire une seule vérité, tout au long de ce film....nous l'avons certainement associé à quelqu'un !L'héroïne, la belle et merveilleuse Gwyneth Paltrow interprète un personnage qui progressivement ouvre les yeux et tente de tirer celui qu'elle aime vers un aveu et un dialogue sincère qu'elle n'obtient pas, pendant que le cinéaste lui offre son autre vie détruite dès les premières images, la vie des Si Si, Si.Un portrait de femme oui ! car les femmes sont à la fois crédules, intransigeantes en ce qui concerne la sincérité, passionnées.Le portrait de l'amante est tout aussi vrai et tout aussi bien interprété.Evidemment une ambiance anglaise, moderne où l'on ne mâche pas ses mots et un casting très très bon.à ne pas rater
