Vector Prime
I haven't read the Vector Prime in a long time. I purchased this ebook for a little under $7. I am reading a Star Wars ebook right now that I have on loan from a library that has ebooks. I am a handicapped man, and I am unable to turn the pages on my own. With these ebooks, I can turn the pages just by my eyes! That's cool!

Solid Start to a series
I'm a big fan of R.A. Salvatore's Drizzt books. If you enjoy a. Star Wars and/or b. Salvatore's previous work, then I think you will enjoy this one immensely.Vector Prime, published in 1999, is the first in a series of 21 books detailing the "New Jedi Order." Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Leia Organna Solo, Chewbacca and Mara Jade (Luke's wife) are all in for an interesting time as the New Republic faces a threat from outside the galaxy: the alien race known as the Yuuzhan Vong, a warrior race with technology like nothing ever seen before. What I really enjoyed was the fact that this wasn't the usual Jedi vs. Sith (although I love the Sith) conflict. The growth in Luke's character, from eager farm boy to grown man who is comfortable in his abilities was nice to see as well. Although some criticized the way the book ends, I found it to be pretty good myself. It certainly makes me want to read the next one in the series, so that is a good thing.

This is The Most Excellent Star Wars Story which is 21 years after Return Of The Jedi.
This is The Most Excellent Star Wars Story which is 21 years after Return Of The Jedi, and also Luke Skywalker would never be a hermit like Yoda and Obi-Wan Kenobi did and Luke has Mara Jade and their kids like Han Solo and Princess Leia has, not just Ben Solo known as Kylo Ren they have twins Jacen and Jaina and the youngest one Anakin, and The Jedi's are unstoppable.

Not as impressed as I thought I'd be
I'm going to preface this by saying that I'm reading this well after it was published, and after havign read many books set before and after this time period.Alright, where to begin. Well, it's an alright start to the storyline, although definitely not R.A. Salvator's best work. I like him as a writer, and he knows how to develop characters and weave an intricate plot, but for whatever reason I feel that the characters were very shallow, and the story was primarily plot based as opposed to developing and following the powerful and interesting characters within. I can understand that this is supposed to set the premise of the series, but it felt incomplete and way too fast. Overall I like it, but it's definitely not his best work. But it's Star Wars, and I'm thoroughly addicted to it. I'll say that this book, and the series is far more interesting than the current Fate of the Jedi series. My opinion only though. You're mileage may vary, and you may be smitten by it. If you like Star Wars and have been holding out, not a bad time to pick up a used copy and take a look, you won't be disappointed, thought if you're new to the world of Star Wars, I'd look at other novels to make that jump into the EU. Try it, although I don't dare you.

Very entertaining...but last 10% interview has spoilers for entire series! grrr
So I used to be a big reader of SW fiction, starting back in the day with the original Thrawn books, up until and including the Hand of Thrawn Duology. At that point I stopped sometime in early 2000 because I had read them all (except the young jedi books, which i wasn't interested in). So after getting my kindle, i saw that all of this New Jedi Order was available on the kindle, and decided to start reading them in order, starting with Vector Prime. As far as the book goes, I enjoyed it thoroughly. It wasn't as good as the Zahn or Anderson books, but it was definitely enjoyable. What I DIDN'T enjoy, was when i finished the book, the last 10% was an interview with some of the people involved with the series. I was interested in some of the background, so started to read it...only to get some huge spoilers which if I had known existed I would never have read. Nobody who is reading Vector Prime for the first time should be given the info they provide, and I'm kinda miffed there wasn't atleast a warning that there were spoilers for the next 24 books included. I stopped reading the moment I realized it, but the damage is done, and I'm really kind of bummed that i know which key member of the universe dies (not including the death in this book itself, which I'm actually fine with and think it was well done, even if it wasn't quite as epic as I would have liked). Anyway, not sure if the paperback has the same deal, but if you're ordering the kindle version, around 88% the book is over. DO NOT READ THE LONG INTERVIEW AFTERWARDS, if you plan on reading the entire series. While it was entertaining read, it ruins some of the major plotlines for the rest of the series. Someone should have their head checked including it with the first book, and at the very least included a warning at the onset.

The dawn of a new era
"Vector Prime" strikes at the dawn of a new era.Jacen, Jaina, and Anakin are now teenagers . . . and powerful Jedi. Now, they make their way in the galaxy, taking on the role of warrior and protectorate. They are developing their own philosophies, taking on larger roles in the novels.Han and Leia mature as parents, protective and struggling to let go.Luke's love for Mara is ever-present as he can do nothing more than watch her fight off her illness.Mara . . . I'm so sad.The new enemy is not like anything we've ever seen -- not a new super weapon, not a remnant of the Imperials, not a Hutt nor a smuggling group. Weapons, culture, a biology like we've never seen . . . the mood is foreboding. Death and destruction is everywhere. Always, I have known which side will prevail, but that is no longer a given. This is so different from what I've read before. It took some time to get used to, as R. A. Salvatore set up the story. I needed time to wrap my head around this new enemy; but once that was done, I was hooked.

An interesting read and intro to a new threat
Vector Prime starts off very differently to any star wars novel I've read. For once, you're not with the main group of solo and Skywalker, instead you're with a pair of researchers who are monitoring the galaxy. This can be to its detriment as you spend quite a bit of time with a character who has other plans, although I get why you need to set it up.I was surprised by this book, I thought because I had a massive jump to the new Jedi order books (skipping other books in between) that I wouldn't like the solo trio and for the most part I didn't except for one. Anakin solo was the most interesting character out of the bunch and really got me invested when spoiler happens to another character.Luke and Mara I thought worked well, the disease making it apparent how desperate Mara is to stay alive and Luke trying to do his best while having his own problems, setting up a new Jedi council etc.Obviously killing off a beloved character brought me to tears and I felt for Han and understood his grief. The Yuuzhan Vong proved themselves worthy to be a great threat to luke and his friends, proving they aren't protected and can be touched like everyone else. That last bit with the shieldships and Anakins scientific reasoning confused me. How does it take two to three hours to melt a planet?I felt that some chapters dragged on longer than needed and at times there was just too much going on, too many battles or switches to different characters when I wasn't aware. Also, quite a bit of spelling mistakes though this is Amazon's doing and not the writer.

Superb story NO SPOILER REVIEW
What a start to a fantastic series, this os book one and I'm currently on the 5th book and all I can say is wow it just gets better with each book (19 + 2 digital novella) the pafes just turn them selves. There is a huge event in this first book which was totally unexpected and this leads to some interesting things in later books

Great book that puts all the original characters in a uniquely different environment from what you are used to. Also much darker than the original storylines, so gets a big thumbs up from me!

Love this book! It has kept the story flowing and even in the loss of a great character, I am looking forward to reading the rest in the series. A great start!
