The Jim Hendrix band of gypsys fuzz is based on a mysterious fuzz face distortion that Jimi Hendrix used at several iconic shows between 1969 and 1970, most notably the band of gypsys performance. Red with white Knobs, This particular fuzz sounded like a completely different animal from any of the other fuzz face pedals in his arsenal, Snarling with an aggressive, biting tone. The pedal itself has been lost to history, but its unmistakably unique sound lives on in recordings. Our engineers Narrowed the sound down to a version of the Octavio circuit that didn't have that pedal’s famous octave-up effect. Now, you can get the same nasty fuzz tones in an MXR mini housing, including a tone control for fine-tuning, featuring the trippy, kaleidoscopic designs of award-winning UK-based design Cure I love dust.

BRUTAL--AND THEREFORE DELICIOUS
The Jimi Hendrix Band of Gypsys Fuzz (Mini) is delightful. [1] It delivers ferocious and massive fuzz that sounds great for both chords and individual notes. (It's hard to describe the sound precisely; you're better off looking up videos to get a good idea.) I use it with Stratocasters, and I can get a great sound with each of a Strat's 5 pickup positions. [2] Unlike the Fuzz Face version (that is, the Dunlop FFM6 Band of Gypsys Fuzz Face--yes, the round, red one with white knobs), this has a tone knob, (I usually keep that fully turned up). [3] The artwork is good: very detailed and interesting. [4] It comes with a Dunlop adaptor (it doesn't accept batteries). If I lost mine, I would certainly buy another.

Huge aggressive fuzz sound - small size. Very fun. Not for everyone
Pros: Very fun addictive aggressive, balls out, very bassy fuzz - made my Boss DS-1 sound like a total wimp when A/B testing a riff through a looper pedal. I used to own the Roger Mayer Axis fuzz (the big orange spaceship) but sold that over 10 years ago for financial reasons. Got this one and it hearkens back to that sound somewhat, and has that torn ripped speaker sound and touch sensitivity too - maybe not 100% as good... My ears were ringing after playing this the first day - yeah this thing rips! I think it's better than a lot of fuzzes out there even though I haven't played too, too many. Sustains similarly, but probably better than a Big Muff & even that Op-Amp orange Smashing Pumpkins version too that people seem to like. I've owned a Death by Audio Fuzz War pedal too and like this one better than that one (sold the Fuzz War pretty quick). The tone knob is a very nice addition vs. the Band of Gypsy's Fuzz Face mini (red with white knobs), but I've never played that one though. It's built really solidly, the knobs are very solid on this mini pedal and don't turn so easily, which I like - great job Dunlop/MXR! Very cool artwork, very thoughtful design and placements of the AC adapter plug and bright LED status light in front. Very versatile sounds for other genres like the other reviewer mentioned, not just for 60's/70's tones. Ventures into grunge, metal, classic, alt. rock, etc. Setting the pedal to a lower volume is enough for me to get unity gain with my clean signal, so lots of boosting ability to drive your amp - could be good or bad?Con: Does not clean up as well as expected when rolling back the volume knob on guitar, which I was hoping for but maybe a small gripe. Digital pedal? Not sure, can someone look at the circuit board gut shot and reply back if it's using silicon transistors or what?
