The Alice Cooper Show

It isn't my favorite, but every true fan of Alice Cooper should ...
This live album from 1977 was the only album from Alice's catalog that I didn't own and it is worthy of being included, so I bought it. I gave it 4 stars simply because this was only agreed upon by Alice due to a contract requirement. He was very tired and wore out from alcohol abuse and this was released prior to "From The Inside" when he got dried out for the first time. It isn't my favorite, but every true fan of Alice Cooper should own a copy.

Come watch me bleed...
Alice really wasn't at the top of his game when his first live release hit the Christmas shelves in late 1977 and `The Alice Cooper Show' has a `going through the motions' sort of feel, so it sort of shows. What may have been an ingenious idea three or four years previous was now seen as a stop gap as the singer was about to enter into rehab. Classic hit run throughs include "Eighteen", "Billion Dollar Babies", "School's Out" and "Under My Wheels". The Coop also trots his three Manilow specials so give him credit for diversifying his live portfolio but what may have been exciting to see in person, comes off flat live. The sound quality is also very poor so maybe `The AC Show' would be ripe for a remaster soon which might help the overall enjoyment of these proceedings. For me the two medleys are the most entertaining parts of the record; "I Love the Dead/Go to Hell/Wish You Were Here" and "Devil's Food/The Black Widow" (love the Vincent Price commentary!) Overall, this live record is not essential as I am sure Alice has later ones that are much more satisfactory.

One of the best least talked about live rock record in history.
I used to listen to this constantly as a kid and thirty years later it still sounds amazing. The song selection is amazing, go figure. The band is amazing and having seen Alice live I can say it very much captures the dynamics of his live show. The bass is drilling in the mix and everything is tight. One of the best least talked about live rock record in history. If you dig Alice it is essential.

Product did not match description.
The cd booklet/insert is missing the first two pages. The product description did not reflect this. Had I known this I would not have purchased it in the first place. If I want a complete version I will have to buy it somewhere else. The cd itself is in good condition.

Radon Balloon
This was the period of Hollywood Alice Cooper, and in fact the next chapter is From The Inside that differs from the classic Alice; it is not a live album that is remembered as Framton Comes Live or Stage by David Bowie, but it is still fun and tracks work well and are different, between these Eighteen with a beautiful guitar of Dick Wagner, is the most convincing, as You and me is the most immediate and Billion dollar babies the more personal and interesting. Produced by Brian Christian and Bob Ezrin, "The Alice Cooper Show," was recorded live at the Aladdin Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada, suffers especially to be too short. Worth noting is the other guitarist Steve Hunter at the highest level, the author of two beautiful albums like Swept Away and The deacon and long in the band of Lou Reed.

The Alice Cooper show
I've loved this lp since it's original release back in the day. Got this re-release for my b.day. Cool packaging gatefold cover. The record it self sounds a little better than my original but it skips bad on the song I never cry.

Not all the show
I always considered this to be only half a live album and by that I was judging it years ago on the original seventies release. The tracks all seemed a little disjointed and in the case of Schools Out almost cut in half. The original production was also muddy and left a lot to be desired. This remastered Japanese import version has certainly done wonders for the production but fails to sort out the track listing and the give any creedence as to why it was decided to include the snatch version of Schools out at the end. On the plus point the album does contain the best ever live version of "Eighteen" plus creditable performances of "Billion Dollar Babies" and "Black Widow". The twin guitars of Steve Hunter and Dick Wagner are razor sharp and if this album had benefitted from a little more thought and contained more recorded tracks from The Alice Cooper Show then it would in its remastered version been something special.

Tolle Box
