Super good book.
My late father in law started flying this aircraft just before the war ended. I wish he could have been able to read this book. It has so much information about these aircraft and how they were used. I highly recommend.

great info, a captivating read
Lots of good stuff on the PYB. Lots of interviews with crew members that related their experiences. If you are interested in warbirds and the history of the WW2 period, this is a great read.

Search and Rescue
My late husband was stationed at Havilo Navel Base during WWII. He would have loved this book as he was Mech 2 on a Dumbo PBY Catalina. He spoke of sitting between two loud engines at the little window behind the pilot's seat while transmitting the guage readings to the pilot. Whenever we had an occasion to see a PBY he would show me the little window where he sat. This book is a wonderful gift for his grandchildren.

Very good!
This was a great book because it was written from the perspective of those that flew it. Almost like you were talking to a group of aircrew members that flew them in person. Very well done and lots of excellent mission stories.

Good book!
Enjoyed the first hand accounts, but could use a better overview of operations.

The great PBY Catalina and her crews
This book was written by a PBY Catalina pilot who served in World War 2. This edition has been updated by the original author's eldest son. It consists of segments of interviews with PBY pilots and crews, and gives a very good insight into the activities that the airman undertook from those airmen's points of view.Whilst the book covers PBY operations undertaken by all the allied forces all over the globe, there is a heavy emphasis on the south west Pacific theatre of the war. This does not diminish the book's two predominant themes: 1) the PBY Catalina was a very robust aircraft that performed far beyond its original design specifications; and, 2) the men who operated these aircraft in a time of conflict were very capable people whom were devoted to a cause. It is a great read.
