Before purchasing, I looked into an awful lot of these weighted blankets; I didn’t realise initially that they were aimed at treating anxiety and certain health conditions, I simply liked the idea of an extra cosy heavy blanket. So on reading all the reviews for the MELA one, and also the fact that it could be returned if not satisfied, although it was a bit more expensive than lots of others, it had an all round good positive feel. I wasn’t wrong!Firstly, the blanket came soooooo well packaged; if it had been bought as a gift, it really does come presented in a lovely box. Once the box was lifted open, and the weighted blanket revealed, it was great to see it secured in cellophane, and the cover itself in separate packaging. It really did come very very well presented. Very impressive!I liked the full instructions within the accompanying booklet, including how to wash the blanket and cover, and how to assemble. The main thing, is how incredibly heavy it is! I know I ordered the 9kg, but was still amazed at the weight. So assembling it into the cover wasn’t easy, but did it single handedly, but it did take time and quite a bit of strength and energy! Think an older person may struggle, or a weaker person. With common sense and the booklet tho, it’s easy enough to work out what ties where. If I remove to wash, I think it’ll be easier to assemble next time, now I’ve done it once.So, once assembled, I thought it was very very heavy to lift, and put on the bed. I probably should have assembled it on top of the bed, as it is a bit of a struggle moving it IMO, but followed the booklet and put together on a flat surface on floor.One thing I am finding, is it does not feel like a “HUG” like a lot of reviews are mentioning, and the booklet mentions. Just my personal view, but I definitely am not feeling the “hug” when using it. Saying that, it certainly feels like nothing I’ve felt from bedding in the past, but it’s more like a pleasant cosiness albeit heavy, but without any feeling of claustrophobia or closed in. Although heavy to lift, it doesn’t feel too heavy when on your body, not at all, the cover is so warm and cosy, and gives it an all round, nice secure feeling. I think the more I use it, the more I’ll grow to love it! I am not disappointed so far, just taking my time adjusting to something so so different.The one and only (slight) negative is the rustling plastic noise you hear when it moves! Rather distracting when relaxing / sleeping. Sounds like those baby toys that you press to hear crinkly noises, but it’s the only small negative.I liked reading in the booklet about how the company was formed. Gave it a nice friendly feel. Felt like a real genuine company that cared. A week after receiving the blanket, I received a lovely email from the Customer Service department, genuinely interested to hear how I’m finding the blanket, and what I like or dislike about it. I think genuine aftercare goes such a long way, quite a rarity today, and it made me think I’d definitely made the right choice in choosing this particular company.I would definitely recommend this product; it is so professionally made and looks classy. Ticks all the boxes and very fast delivery. Early days but I think I will be very happy with this purchase. Thank you Mela

For those who don't want to read the whole review here is a summary -- Very soft and aesthetically pleasing- Did a lot to help with my anxiety and sensory issues- Didn't help with my sleep because of my fibromyalgia- Wonderful company, brilliant customer service- Great priceI was extremely impressed with how quickly it came so everything started off well. I bought this blanket because I suffer from fibromyalgia, which gives me some very difficult sensory issues. I also have bad anxiety which gives me panic attacks. I had heard that a weighted blanket can help with all of those things and although they are expensive I really wanted to give it a try to see if it could help. I looked around at a few but I loved Mela, the blanket was aesthetically pleasing and all I had read about the company was super positive things, and I think it is really important to buy from good ethical companies.Unfortunately, the blanket did not help with my sleep, it actually made it worse. Although I did give it a fair go and tried for a few nights. However I found that extended use makes my pain worse. At first this really disappointed me, but I realised there were two other reasons I bought this blanket. Although they market the blanket specifically for sleep, I have found that it really does help with my other issues. If I feel on the verge of a anxiety attack I found that lying down using this blanket to be really really helpful. It helps me to slow my breathing and grounds me so that I can get more control over my mind and body. Additionally I have found similar things when using the blanket for sensory issues, the weight really helps me in those situations, although escaping to my room might also be a contributing factor! For all of those reasons and more I decided to keep the blanket even thought it did not help my sleep by using it overnight, it did help me sleep if I used it for an hour or so before bed. It really does decrease stress and helps me decompress. Those who suffer from the same issues as I do could benefit from this blanket.Some other wonderful things that really made this great - the packaging was really nice, the cover is easy to put on and the ties help it stay in place very well. It is also easy to take off and wash, which as I am clumsy and often need to eat in bed is really great. I have two cats that sleep in my room during the day and although they both shed I have found that the blanket doesn't hold the hairs like other materials do.The company is also wonderful, they give back to the community and give any returns to those in need. I feel its so important to support small ethical companies so please do give a second to this amazing weighted blanket.

I was so excited to get this blanket. I ordered it just as the lockdown started, and I've been undergoing treatment, which means I have to stay at home. Anxiety and emotions have been high.The blanket was delivered a lot earlier than expected, and was beautifully wrapped and packaged. It sounds daft, it being a weighted blanket, but I was surprised at just how heavy it was when I picked up the box. But then again, you're meant to lie under it, not lug it around with you!The quality of the blanket is exceptional, the materials used are high quality, and the outer blanket is soft and luxurious feeling.I feel a little unfair reviewing my sleep quality. I am on a treatment which really affects my sleep quality, and gives me extremely restless legs, just as I'm dropping off. Other than getting up and stretching, nothing works to calm this. The blanket is not a miracle worker, and it does not counter the effects of strong pharmaceutical drugs. So I can't say that it's enabled me to drop off quicker, but it's not a fair test.What I can say is that when I am under the blanket, I feel safe and warm and cosy. And when I do drop off, I fall into a much deeper sleep. Prior to my illness and treatment, I suffered from insomnia where I'd wake up in the early hours and not be able to get back to sleep. Now, when I'm asleep, I sleep through.I have not tried any other weighted blankets, but did do my research before investing in this one. I live it, and would definitely recommend it. The quality of the product, and the comfort it brings is excellent. Hopefully when my treatment is over, my sleep quality will continue to improve with the use of my lovely blanket.
