Words Their Way for PreK-K (Words Their Way Series)

Toolkit is NOT up and running.I bought this book to help my daughter, who is going into Kindergarten in the fall, get ready for K. I spent the $25 becuase I knew I would get access to the sorts to print out and use with her over the summer. I saw the review from November saying the system was down, but it is now the end of May, it should be back up and running. IT IS NOT!!! I called tech, becuase I couldn't log in and my email after registration gave me a different WTW book, the first tech I talked to sent me a different access code, we hung up. I re-registered and again, same problems. Called again, the lady this time couldn't figure out why the code wouldn't be working, it was then I read the descriptions of the books I was signing in for and it says"Words Their Way for PreK-KFrancine R. Johnston, Marcia R. Invernizzi, Lori Helman, Donald R. Bear, Shane TempletonWe are aware of the persistent issues with the PDToolkit for Words Their Way and apologize for the inconvenience to you and your students. Pearson is investigating a long term solution to address all open issues but that solution will not be implemented until early 2015.In the interimPearson recommends customers suspend use of the PDToolkit until further notice.The sites will remain active for users who wish to use them in their current limited state."But there is NO place to even sign in, anytime you try it goes back to teh homepage.Very upset, DO not purchase if you need access to the sorts and such now. It comes with some in the back of the book, but not all. Call Pearson to see if the toolkit is up and running before you purchase.

Okay- I have to be clear about this...this is a 5 star book. Excellent information and great for teachers of all experience levels. It is best teaching practice for this developmental group. Why one star...? Because the accompaniment to this book is a free year subscription to the Pdtoolkit, which gives you access to instructional videos and resources to support the activities and assessments in this book. Cool right? However, the server is down without any date for coming back online and when you purchase this book from Amazon, the code in the back only allows you "student" access. What does that mean? I don't know, the site is down. However, from the discussion with tech, the access would be limited. So I got the run around and I am now trying to get a higher ed rep to contact me back so I can get an access number for a teacher, which I paid for when I bought the book. So, this is the story, you decide how you want to proceed. But at least you know. The book is good but the customer service so far stinks:)

Yes! New ideas that are not so new but seemed to excite me to think in a different way. I felt like I was talking to a co-teacher! When I got lost in where I was and where I wanted to go - according to the standards - I was able to make the connection and move on. Sometimes, i left planning for one student - and moved to another, to give my brain time to process. I love this little book! Another plus, it is written for me - like I worked all day but I think the student is above where my last observation placed her - it is written in simple words. Masters degree holders/ candidates need not be turned off - I say this with respect for the author. I understood - after work - and on the weekends. I am glad I am one of those teachers who will never stop learning - because of authors like this say "been there done that, and you can too.!" Thank you.

If you have the other Words Their Way books, this one isn't necessary!

I got this book today and so far have read a bit.. I've used WTW with my students for years but never had the pre-k, k book. I teach k-3 sped. This will definitely help me with my younger friends who need to learn their letters and sounds! Great resource. It also came with a CD in the back of the book. I haven't used this yet or seen what is on it. My hope is that there are sorts on the CD for my students to use.

I've been teaching K for 13 years and I wish I had found this book sooner! I feel like I can really focus on this book for instruction with reading and word work for the next 13 years. Everything was clear, easy to understand, and the kids like to do the work. I also bought the two early sort books for extra materials. This book rocks!
