Both my kids love doing projects with me, especially the ikea variety where they can follow the steps. So I thought this workbench would be perfect for Christmas, and it was! My kids are past the eating toys stage or else I would have held onto it for longer. But my 1 year old loves putting the screws in and going through the different pieces and my 3 year old loves building the projects with me and following the directions. Later on, I think they will be able to follow the instructions solo but for now it’s more of a safe building toy with me. And I enjoy it as a totally non- mechanically minded person because I am learning some basic mechanics. My caveat is to check that you’ve gotten all the pieces, because I was missing a couple. I included a pics of all the pieces you should have and circled the pieces in the instructions that were missing. But Hape quickly sent me those and so I am keeping the 5 stars considering it wasn’t much effort compared to the playtime and learning value.

I purchased this for my 4 year old for Christmas. It is smaller (he sits on the floor with it to play) but I love that because it is easier for him to play with while trying to figure out the inventions. We have done several of the different inventions and they have all worked perfectly! At 4 years old he still needs help figuring out how to put things together to make them work though so it’s been great bonding time for us as well! The whole workbench is wood so it is very sturdy. The plastic pieces are very heavy plastic and very sturdy as well. I love that the screws are bigger so they are easier for my sons tiny hands.

This is a really cute workbench and the price (~$60) for 10 experiments seems more reasonable than the larger Deluxe workbench (~$100) for 15 experiments. I didn't buy the large one because of space considerations and figured 10 experiments would be enough to keep my son busy. He is a bit young for this but I built one for him and he enjoys playing with it as a toy. The instruction manual is also nice and big and easy to follow. If you have additional Hape kits (e.g. Master Builder Set) unfortunately the hole sizes aren't exactly the same so it's not fully cross compatible if you want to expand use of this bench. Howeer, you can still use the other pieces and secure them with the screws that come with this set. Makes for great experiments in the days to come!

The toy is great, but some parts are missing and extra parts came.

It looks like a cool toy, but arrived with a piece missing. Also there was no inventory checklist, so I put it halfway together before realizing a piece was missing. Lost time there, anything requiring assembly with so many pieces definitely needs an inventory as step 1. Disappointed and returning.

Bought a used set which said like new, but it was missing many parts, had to return. Good toy though.

We got this to give as a gift. It looks really fun.

Great toy for my son. He loves playing with it. There is so many different ways to built and rebuilt - supports a lot of the creative thinking! Would definitely buy it again!
