Good sturdy camera good picture quality, just test location before mounting
Camera arrived next day, well packaged and sturdy design. I have a number of IP CCTV cameras so I am well versed in the setup. This device was quick and easy to configure using ubiquiti PoE switch and Synology NAS.Tested camera and sensitivity for motion detection and went to install. The camera has a "unique" ball joint for setup so don't expect the wall bracket to be square. Make sure you test the feed and position and be happy before you mark up and drill holes. If I was to mark the camera down on anything it would be the fixing bracket design, whilst study, is more fiddly than other brands I have used before.Camera works well covering my drive, good night vision, though not tested to 131ft (drive is about 25ft).I do like the adjustable hood that is on the camera and hope to update the review once I have seen it working in rain and frosty mornings to see how the lens holds up.Decided to test distance on the camera today so set it up on back garden 45' long. Picture was good and responsive on both NAS and via amcrest Android app. Not sure about the 100+ft claim, but very happy with the quality shown in the picture. Might have to get another to fix permanently at the back of my property!

Great replacement for a 1080P Camera
Superfast delivery from Amazon as expected with prime membership. I was looking forward to getting this camera delivered and setup into my home CCTV system. I'm currently running the free version of Milestones excellent XProtect software, amazing software and free for up to 8 cameras. I've currently got a mixture of IP cameras including four Trendnet, Two Hikvision (one being a doorbell camera) and one Amcrest. By far the Amcrest I currently have is the best software out of all the cameras I have with an intuitive sleek looking interface. I was excited to get my first 4k camera added to my setup so decided on the IP8M-2496EW due to its wide viewing angle and IR capability. I've used this camera to replace one of the Trendnets which is on the front of the house and has recorded great footage of two attempted vehicle break ins which was passed to the police so any improvement to the quality of recorded footage will be good.Mounting:I fitted this camera just above my garage door so it can capture anyone approaching my garage up my driveway. The camera was easy to install and adjust to the correct position, the waterproof network connection is easy to hook up and is a must. I ran the network connection into the garage through to the house and have it running off a POE switch after initially using a POE injector to test when mounting. Camera looks smart and has a metal body and a plastic hood making it look high quality.Configuration:The camera is IP and POE which for me is the best possible configuration for CCTV cameras. The camera comes configured to grab an IP address from DHCP but setting a static IP on the camera was easy with the camera redirecting you to the new static IP address as soon as you hit save, very smart! The firmware was about a year behind the latest version available which was a bit of disappointment but finding the correct firmware and loading onto the camera was a breeze and took about 5 minutes to complete. Upgrading the firmware also meant I didn't have to install any plugins in the browser (Chrome) to see the video feed from the camera. I was really impressed with how fast the web interface felt on the camera, it was very intuitive to use and clicking around the plethora of configuration options available was instantaneous. Don't forget to configure some NTP settings for the camera, it’s important to have the time set correctly when using CCTV as evidence fortunately this camera supports NTP and configuration of daylight savings time. The SMTP configuration is best I've seen yet with the ability to select pre-defined SMTP providers including Google, Outlook.com, Comcast, Yahoo as well as manual configuration.NVR Configuration:The camera was added quickly and easily into Milestone XProtect which pre-records for 3 seconds and post records for 5 seconds after movement.Viewing Through TV:Last time I wrote a review for IP cameras it was December 2014, I've upgraded my setup for viewing through the TV since then. Where before I was using software to encode the streams from the video cameras and play on a DLNA enabled TV I've now got a Technomate TM-RF HD also available on Amazon which connects to my CCTV recording server where I leave on a split screen view of all my cameras. This allows me to turn any TV in the house to channel 800 and watch my CCTV in HD. I'm sure this would work well with any NVR which has an HDMI.Video Quality:I have set one of my streams on the camera to be the highest quality it possibly can, the video quality is fantastic I was really impressed. I have set the second stream to be a lower quality stream so it can be used through my TV's. Night time quality is good using the built in IR lights and the footage is crisp and clear with no lens glare. Conclusion:My 5 year old Trendnet dome cameras have aged really well but I think it's now time to start the switch out to 4K, I'm going to watch the price of these and possibly try an Amcrest dome camera next to replace my other Trendnet domes around the outside of the house. Great product! Would recommend.

Buy cheaper cameras
This is the second 8mp camera I have bought the first one refused to stay online for more than 10 mins at a time so I sent it back and ordered this make instead. The camera set up was easy and had a picture in a few minutes has good day and night vision but the software is a nightmare.I have still no idea how to get it to record and any time you leave the live view it resets the image to sd again, I can press record on the live view and check a few minutes later and it will say no recording.I have set up 4 Reolink cameras at work and have a CamHi camera out of the front of my house and recording and playback are straight forward but this camera seems impossibleIf I didn’t want my home and work camera’s on the same software I would definitely be using the Reolink 5mp at home as well. Unless anyone can talk me through how to record on this camera

Works well if carefully positioned
Installation and set up was straightforward and day/night performance is good. I have it set up to record on motion detection only, to a QNAP surveillance station. If the camera is pointing towards an area of regular movement, then it will obviously trigger often and the feature to select areas that do not trigger the movement detection did not work well for me. If you can position the camera to just cover your property, it works well. During the day, it triggers as expected. At night the only issue is it is triggered by larger insects that fly near the camera, but that is infrequent and probably the same with any night vision capable camera. It does significantly reduce the amount of HDD space consumed by recordings and I am am confident that it will pick up intruders both day and night. It also triggers on small animals, so if you want it to record night time furry visitors to your garden, it should do the job. For the money its very good - if it's reliability stands up. In two weeks I have only had to hard reset it once, but that could have been a POE injector or other network issue. Otherwise you can just leave it and check your recordings every few days to check all is well. I use the Amcrest app on my phone, which allows you to check the feed remotely, that also works well.
