I bought thinking they would measure up to Thirstystone and they're close but not quite the same. For the money, they will do.

More absorbing than most

I was searching for some new sandstone coasters. After almost 20 years, the original set of 4 I had needed some replacement as one got lost when I moved and another one cracked right in half when someone dropped it - again they were used for 20 years...The only thing I had an issue with is that all of the newer ones I came across are ginormous now - like 4 inches or more across. I really only need them for mugs and highballs. Plus I needed them to fit my original wooden holder too. These were the ONLY ones that do because of their shape and flattened edges - they 'just' fit! Plus my old ones were round - which was great - but these octagon-ally shaped ones are different and I like that. I avoided the square ones completely as that just seems wasteful as none of my glasses or mugs are square - plus then I assume the 4 corners have more of a chance of breaking or dinging or whatever.I only have two issues with these coasters - hence the 4 stars. First two out of the 6 are bigger then the other 4 - so stuck up slightly more in the holder above the others. Not too much of a big deal as 4 were the same size - I just put the larger ones in the kitchen to use on my breakfast table. Secondly the cork on the back of these coasters seems like no cork I have ever seen - and very dark too. I think maybe the back is a cork composite or something like that. My old ones always had a soft cork backing - soft to the touch, soft on the table - like most cork that you touch - it is soft. I rubbed these down a lot with my hands and some roughness of the cork seems to have subsided. I think, though, I am actually going to take a really fine sandpaper to them and see if that helps smooth the backing and make it a bit softer too. Maybe it is the glue they use - it hardens the cork? I dunno.Either way these look good and arrived safely and have a cool shape. I am looking forward to 20 plus years with these as well. I will update this review if I notice any issues with absorbency and stuff.

i did have some sandstone coasters for yrs but wanted a new set. i found these and love them! i love the shape most are square or round. and a big plus is you get 6 and all the others for same price or more you only get 4 and they are real sandstone cause i got mine then i got a set for a gift for my brother and they are differnt. which i love. but i did have to wait a while because they were out. which to mean that means that they are not mass produced. i use them all the time and i dont worry about them sraching my glasses! they have nice weight to them and are thick so if you drop them no worries about them breaking. so if you want a nice set get them they are a great product!!

Finally...coasters that are absorbent and don't stick to the bottom of my glassware. Couldn't be happier with my purchase!!

I know sandstone has a variation of colors and lines, however it definitely does not look like the picture at all sadly. At this point I'll return then and just wait until I'm able to pick some up in Zions or another cool place. They looked really nice online, but in person they are very bland looking. One friend even assumed they were wooden coasters, and not sandstone ones. If you don't mind the color, they absorb quite well.

These coasters are lovely to look at, especially as they darken with moisture, and they protect my beloved antique wood dining table from even the sweatiest beverages (even better than my old set of Thirstystone coasters). I love the unique shape of these and that they come in a set of six so there's enough for everyone! Each one is unique, as this design is not just printed on; it's a genuine striation in the stone. If you were to drop one and chip a corner off, it would not damage the design (in fact, it might just give a little extra character to the piece). The cork on the bottom protects my table and the other coasters from scratches.

Exactly what I wanted and they are such a gem of a find. They soak up all the condensation.

Just received these beautiful sandstone octagon coasters , they are exactly as advertised!! They will suit my needs and look forward to not having my wet coasters fall of bottom of drink !! Fantastic ‘
