A wonderful translation! -- with wonderfully readable typeface -- and easily searchable text
This is about the Kindle version. (I have not received the bonded leather version yet.)This is a very readable translation, true to the original texts, per the latest in solid biblical scholarship -- and an approved Catholic translation for study and personal use, per the USCCB website. The typeface is beautifully readable, even for my non 20/20 vision.Contrary to some earlier reviews, I found it VERY easy to quickly search for/find a book/chapter/verse: just go to the Table of Contents, click on the title of the book (eg, Jeremiah, Matthew, etc.) you want to view, and it then lists hyperlinks for each chapter in that book. Click on the chapter hyperlink you want - and read and pray away! The references are also easily accessible by clicking on the hyperlinked numbers - but don't distract the reader with the reference material if one just wants to read and pray with the scripture text. Now I can carry the Bible around with me anywhere -- and delays at appointments, stuck in traffic, etc. now offer graced moments of opportunity -- to read and savor a few lines of scripture. As if all that wasn't good enough: If you purchase a paperback or bound copy, you can THEN purchase the Kindle version for 2.99 under Amazon's Kindle MatchBook program. All this and heaven too!

A Daily Read
Finding Catholic versions of the Bible at a reasonable price in electronic media is difficult. This one for my Kindle Fire perfectly supports a daily regimen that I have been working to cultivate. The Fire's features make it easy to find key references, highlight particular verses, bookmark where I want to continue the next day, get to the footnotes and other references, etc. It is also perfect for the occasional traveler. I don't have to lug the laptop along or carry a very large book. We just returned from a two week vacation, and leaving the laptop, my regular Bible, two novels and five magazines behind, saved 10 to 15 pounds (plus lots of space) in luggage/carry ons. Got my daily reading done as well as my light reading. I also lead a scripture study and have several additional electronic Bible versions and study tools. However, combined with the Kindle features, this has become my primary personal and reference Bible. An excellent and cost effective purchase.

Good translation, but larger than I expected
This review is for the bonded leather version. I ordered this specific Bible as I wanted one for travel. Though I have Kindle versions of the Bible, and they are very convenient, for me there is just something more "tangible" about the experience of reading a physical copy of the Bible. Though I am partial to the RSV-Catholic 2nd Edition from Ignatius Press, I was enthused about having an NRSV as well. The reason I selected this particular NSRV was (1) it was one of the few (if only) Catholic editions and (2) it was a "thin line" version, which I took to mean as compact. Here are my first impressions, and also why I chose to return it:- While it is indeed quite thin (less than 1" thick), the width/height dimensions are actually slightly larger than my full Bible from Ignatius Press.- I like the simple black bonded leather cover. Bonded leather is what it is, which is to say cheap, but it seems it would provide adequate protection. Also there are no markings/writings on the front cover, and just "Holy Bible" on the spine (and perhaps "NRSV" as well, I can't remember). But the simplicity gives it a classic look.- The pages are very thin, and stick together easily. Upon receiving I tried to look up a couple of my favorite verses. 4 out of 5 times it seems that I had to "unstick" the very thin pages to get to the page I wanted. No doubt this would diminish with time and use. But the pages are quite thin. Not sure how they would hold up to colored markings, if one were planning to in fact make notes. (Note: I will also say that I've likely been spoiled with the pages from my Ignatius Press Bible, which are the nicest I've ever seen on any Bible).- The NRSV translation itself is fine. I'm not a Bible scholar so can't say whether the claims that it is the "most accurate" translation are true or not. But I found many verses to be unchanged from the RSV2-CE. There were also cases where only a single word of a verse was changed. Sometimes I felt like this made the verse more clear and generally flow better, and other times I thought it did the opposite. What I sometimes found myself missing was some of the poetic beauty of the RSV2-CE.- Gender-inclusive language: Some of it works very well (for example "neighbor" instead of "brother", and some of it not so well (Mark 1:17: "Follow me and I will make you fish for people").... Hmmm... just a little too "PC" for my taste. But there is no doubt that the language is overall more modern, and so will probably be a little bit easier to read for most than something like the RSV2-CE (which has removed the archaic language found in the standard RSV).In the end my reason for returning it was due to the size. I just wanted something a little more compact. I found that Ignatius Press actually publishes a "New Testament with Psalms" version of their RSV2-CE that has dimensions much closer to what I was hoping for. So if I need to read something in the OT I'll just refer to my Kindle version. All this said, they say the best Bible is the one you will actually read, and this NRSV appears to be very readable. The gender-inclusive language can be annoying at times, particularly if you are already familiar with verses written in a particular way. If not then you probably won't notice, and by most accounts it is considered an excellent translation by Bible scholars. The fact that is thin makes it very readable; I say this with the assumption that the pages won't stick together as much after some regular use. Know however that the pages are very thin. If you think you will be writing a lot of notes there is certainly room in the margins to do so, but you'll need to find just the right writing instrument. Also since it is thin I think it is fairly portable; though for females you would need a fairly large purse for this to fit; it's pretty much a standard-sized bible but thinner. I personally wanted something a little smaller to throw in my travel bag while on the road. Also, if you are looking for something "really nice", you may want to look at some of the other versions. The bonded leather is fine for its intent, but cheap-feeling. This Bible is for reading, not for looking pretty on the coffee table.

Thinline NRSV (catholic version)
First off, after countless uses of different bible translations, I find NRSV the best translation for catholics! I have tried good news and new american bible, but have not like their translations. I have protestant friends who have introduced me to the ESV (which I know is NOT a catholic translation and are missing the deuteroncanonicles). I have fallen in love with that translation, and have find it very similar to the NRSV; which is my reasoning for using the version. I love this bible, and the fact that it is not heavy and bulky like other bibles out there on the market. I usually love compact to, but this is not compact but I am good with that. The only thing I dont like about this particular bible is that there are not book introductions in it; but if that is the worst thing than this bible is mighty fine to me. LOVE LOVE LOVE this one. So when purchasing a new bible, please consider this one. Wont you be a hero and make a space on your shelf for this one?

Perfect for travel
I bought this Bible for scripture classes because I already had several other books to bring with me and I didn't want the extra weight of a study Bible. This Bible is great. It is the perfect size for a backpack or messenger bag and the text is big enough to read with ease. I would recommend this to anyone who is looking for a good travel Bible.

Practical Bible to Carry Around
If You are looking for a Go Anywhere Bible. This is It. This bible is thin and easy to handle and the Letters are easy to read, no strains. And the NRSV version is Great. I am a Pentecostal believer and I didn't want the extra books. But having said that now a days Pentecostal Bible colleges insist to have the extra books - reasons unknown. I read Bible for Enjoyment. Because I delight myself in reading the word of God night and day. This Bible is so Practical to carry around - In your personal Study room, the Pulpit ... God Bless Us.
