The Gray Wolf Throne (A Seven Realms Novel, 3)

Each Book is More Spectacular Than the Last
4.5 StarsThe Gray Wolf Throne is another great addition to the Seven Realms Series. I have to say that I'm more impressed with each book they just keep building and layering so there can be a fantastic conclusion to the series. We pick up right where we left off in the exiled queen. Raisa has escaped the Bayars once again and is trying to find her way home to reunite with her family and the throne. Han has been recalled by the clans to go into service but on the way to whispering pines he is searching for Rebecca Morley (Raisa) hoping he can find the girl he has become so attached to.There was danger around every corner and so many people trying to make sure Raisa never makes it back to her kingdom. There are still some absolutely heart wrenching moments for me between Raisa and Amon (sigh for a love that can never be) and even for Han and Raisa. There are so many close calls and it is amazing how some lay down their lives for Queen and Country."She had never felt more alive than when she lay dying in Han Alister's arms."Han really comes into his one in this book and shows that even in high politics he can play the game. Raisa becomes even more confident in herself and the leadership role she will need to take on. "I continue to believe in miracles. But I know that miracles come to those who work very hard"All of the supporting characters I loved from the other two books are back and as fierce as ever. Fire Dancer, Cat, Amon, Micah and Crow all bring so much to the story. I loved getting more of the backstory of Hanalea and Algier and finding out for sure who Crow really was although I was pretty sure already before the reveal."The time will come when you will be forced to make a choice," Hanalea said. "When that time comes, choose love."It was a roller coaster ride of political intrigue and posturing the whole way through. There are so many great moments in this book and the set up for the finale is incredible. I can't wait to see how all of the arcs play out. The writing is captivating and beautiful even though it is YA it is not dumbed down and remains incredibly intricate. Another win for Chima!

Love this series!
First things first, I love the covers for this series - they are fantastic. The vibrant colors and the detailing on the cover art make them stand out. Now, moving on to what lay inside the covers. Cinda William Chima's Seven Realms series is one of my ultimate favorites. When I first pick up The Demon King about a year ago, I devoured it and quickly moved on to The Exiled Queen. At that point, I could not wait to get my hands on The Gray Wolf Throne. When I originally started The Gray Wolf Throne, I thought that it was the last book of the series. Once I finished, I was full of despair. How could the series end like that? What happened with the characters? Come to find out, Cinda "was on page 576 and nothing was resolved." (source) So, we get a fourth book! I have mixed feelings on this. Of course, I'm saddened by the fact that I have to wait another year to finish the story. Overall, my joy comes out on top. This series is so fantastic and I love that the books are so bulky... I will gladly wait another year to get another great book from Cinda. The Gray Wolf Throne is full of everything I love about Cinda's Seven Realms series: Lush setting, just enough romance, endless adventure and sensational character development.TGWT picks up closely to where TEQ left off. Raisa has escaped from Micah and Fiona Bayer and is now trying to decide what to do. Should she return home? Will anyone else hunt her down? Will Han come after her? While Han's journey is centered on trying to find Raisa, as well as fulfill his obligations to others.I felt like Raisa really grew in this installment. She was much more bold and more comfortable in her skin. She's beginning to understand what duty truly means in her shoes and of course, she's realizing what exactly love is. Raisa loves her queendom and has such a passion for those around her, she wants to help everyone. Unfortunately, as she is coming to find, sometimes duty has to come before love. In which case, things don't look so good for Han.On the other hand, Han is used to being ruthless and he's not giving up on Raisa yet. TGWT throws quite a few wrenches into Han's plans, but he usually finds his way around them. What I love about Han is his tenacity. He is a fighter and he does not know the meaning of giving up or giving in.The only downside I found was the lack of interaction between Han and Raisa. As much as I would have loved a little more romance between the two, I would have really just liked to see more of Han altogether. The Gray Wolf Throne is a bit more centered on Raisa and a bulk of the story is told from her POV.Overall, Cinda had me anxiously turning pages - or pressing the right arrow key on my laptop, rather - and sitting on the edge of my seat just waiting to find out what would happen to my beloved characters. The plot and the pace were better than ever, full of mystery and intrigue. The Gray Wolf Throne does not disappoint, it definitely has it all. Full of betrayal, heartbreak, tragedy and intrigue - a definite page-turner. Pick this one up, you won't be disappointed!

What have you done? (4/10)
Series filler. That's the description for this book. Nothing happens, just one or two remarkable things. Conversations that repeat themselves like 1000 times and action scenes too repetitive to be credible. I would not continue this series if I hadn't purchased the last book already. I really hope it gets better.

Gripping adventure with plenty of detail
I came back to the Seven Realms Series after a gap of about two years, and my main worry was that I had completely forgotten all of the previous storylines and characters. My fears were completely unfounded - Cinda Williams Chima keeps the action going at a rapid pace whilst never leaving her readers in the dark. I was reminded entirely of why I liked Han and Raisa so much as lead characters, and while I would like a little more depth to some characters (Reid Nightwalker sometimes skims a bit too close to 'devilishly handsome warrior charmer'), she carefully avoids a moustache twirling villain in the Bayars and gives us a family it's really fun to dislike. There's more politics in this novel than the previous ones and I like that we're knowing more about the whole Seven Realms rather than just one. My only criticism is that I was under the impression that this series was a trilogy, and I was confused as to why there were absolutely no plot points being wrapped up even around the 90% mark in my Kindle. It's a little frustrating that things just seem to keep going and never be resolved (even minor plot points), and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the Crimson Crown doesn't shovel all of the endings in at one place.Overall I really enjoyed the Gray Wolf Throne and I'm very much looking forward to getting my teeth into the Crimson Crown. Definitely worth a read!
