MegaForce [Blu-ray] (Japanese Import - Region A)

This review pertains to the Japanese region bluray
-------update on 8/19/22---------I have terrific news for Megaforce fans in that the boutique bluray label out of Australia called Umbrella Entertainment has issued a full fledged special edition of this film on region free bluray on August 3, 2022. It features a ton of new and archival extras. Well worth importing!---------------------------------------The 1982 box office bomb Megaforce is my 2nd all time favorite so-bad-it's-great movie behind 1987's "Miami Connection" (which has gotten a special edition bluray release courtesy of Drafthouse Films by the way). Megaforce was a big budget (for the time) summer action release accompanied by a toy line and an Atari 2600 game. The movie was a complete failure at the box office and with critics alike. However as with most films of this ilk, it has amassed a large cult following over the years and was also a huge & apparent influence on "Team America: World Police".Languishing for years in bootleg purgatory without an official release, Hen's Tooth Video released an official DVD of Megaforce in anamorphic widescreen a few years back. There was a huge problem however with the audio being pitched an entire step higher than it should be. Corrected DVD's were issued as replacements but it was a huge issue for fans. Around this same time a bluray of the film was released in Japan. Blurays from the land of the rising sun will play in North American bluray players as they are Region A locked usually. The price on the bluray was quite high for a long time. Factor in the higher international shipping costs and it was a cost prohibitive option for most people.I waited it out and the price eventually dropped to a more reasonable level and some Japanese sellers started offering the bluray on the American Amazon.com site with shipping only being 3.99.As for the bluray quality, it is a very noticeable improvement over the Hen's Tooth DVD. The film is presented utilizing the AVC codec (at an average bit rate getting up into the low to mid 20's in busy sections) in an 1.78:1 aspect ratio which is opened up slightly from its original 1.85:1 theatrical exhibition. While some DNR (digital noise reduction) is seen throughout, it never becomes too overbearing to the point that everything looks too smooth or waxy in terms of skin complexions. The bit rate is solid and no compression issues are visible despite being on a single layer disc. Contrast and black levels along with flesh tones look natural. While it's obvious a full scale restoration wasn't done, the print used was in great shape and colors are well defined and natural. This is more than likely the best release of the film we're ever going to get. The sound is presented in lossless multichannel audio and most importantly is at the correct pitch! There are absolutely no extras at all, not even a trailer. English subtitles are also not included.I would love to see this one day get a deluxe special edition release but as it stands this is the best quality version of the film for fans to get. Highly recommended for hardcore fans. Deeds not words!

Favorite 1980s Cheese.
This was on of my favorite "B movies" as a kid in the early 1980s. I didnt know it was of the low budget variety back then though. I had actually forgotten the name of it and had been trying to remember it for the past 30 years or so. I ended up seeing a reference to it in someone's Facebook profile picture and immediately asked them what movie it was from. When they responded "MegaForce" I was excited but also disappointed because that title had evaded my memory for so long. I promptly did a search for it here on Amazon and disovered that not only was it available but available in BluRay as well. I ordered one once I figured out it was in English even though it was a Japanese version. And the picture quality is quite good for a movie made so long ago on a tight budget. It was awesome watching it with my kids (Ages 15 and 8) after so long. I suggest that anyone that enjoyed this movie in the 80s should grab one while they are still available.

Deeds not words... well okay just words about the film
Like Roadhouse this film would not be as great as it is had they not taken it completely seriously while making it. The script makes no senses the effects are terrible the acting is barely there. But this film is a wonderful time capsule of a time where anything sounds like a good idea when cocaine is involved. It is a prime example of "so bad it's good" Just leave your brain at the door sit back and have a good time.

A great b action movie from the 80's
I bought this because I was always curious about Mega Force. Its the idea of a futuristic elite military freedom force from the perspective of the 80's . The cycles and military equipment look awesome. It has a GI Joe feel to it without Cobra. Even though the movie is an import from Japan it plays by default in english and plays on U.S. media devices. Picture and audio are very good.

Here comes The Egg, and that's no yolk!
So glad I took the chance to buy this Japan-Import Blu-Ray of this classic movie! I own a very good copy on VHS, which played on my Panasonic AG-1980 S-VHS or my Mitsubishi HS-HD2000U D-VHS looks pretty dang good, but nothing like that of this beautifully remastered Blu-Ray. Never thought I'd be able to enjoy this movie with near this level of clarity, sharpness and color rendition. Beyond amazing the quality of the video, words can't describe it! The attached photos were taken with my iPad Air 2, so scan lines are visible. If your a fan of MegaForce, then do not hesitate, BUY THIS NOW!DEEDS NOT WORDS!

This movie is terrible...Terribly Awesome!
What can you say, over dramatic acting, special effects from almost 4 decades ago, and a plot that is weaker than a cup of coffee from the Air Force, should mean this movie gets one star, but ten minutes into the movie and my daughter looks at me and says, "The movie just started and they already blew up a huge plant! This is awesome!". That pretty much sums up all you need to know about this movie.

What a horrible movie. But I just had to watch it ...
What a horrible movie. But I just had to watch it as I could never forget the wild vehicles from when I saw this as a child. Very camp, poor acting and a meaningless plot. But it does have motorcycles that shoot rockets and change color!Blu-ray quality is okay. Can't imagine the source material left much to work with.

Great cheesy 80s action
I saw this in theatres when I was a kid. Had not seen it since. It's a cheesy 80s PG action flick. The quality of the blu ray is excellent considering the age of the movie.
