Master LockKeyed Alike Trailer Hitch Locks 1480KA-2

These worked well. I have a hitch extender, so it is nice to have two locks that are keyed together. So far, so good.

I don't like the fact that I discovered upon receiving this order that the keys to my older set purchased about 5 years old fit this new set! Apparently every set of these that master lock sells uses the exact same key! That doesn't provide me very much security!

I had a similar hitch lock years ago and now I remember why I haven't been so fond of these types of locks. I have had many Master locks in the past and were quite happy with them. I figured what with the o-rings and seals they have come a long way. That is not the case with these keyed alike units from Master Lock. Perhaps if you put them on and remove them when your done the would be ok. However I left mine on (securing my hitch cover) and after a year that didn't include winter driving in the salt and slush I tried to remove it to use my trailer. It's a good thing I was at home where all my tools are because it took a couple pairs of big channel lock pliers and a large hammer and an hour and a half to get it off. Since they are stainless (rust proof?) it would have taken forever to saw off and using a torch on my new truck was not an option. I have an old Fulton lock that has seen more highway miles and dirt than this one and it still comes off with not much more than a squirt of WD 40 and a little smack. From now on I will take the chance of someone stealing my hitch cover or hitch. I thought about writing Master Lock but It more than likely would be a waste of time. I wasn't even going to write this review because it irritated me so much but I wrote some reviews on other products that blew me away and I figured people should know that they are worthy items. By the same token I should let the buyer beware if they are interested in these items. If you put them on and take them right off they would probably will work just fine for ever, but what's the point if you can't leave them on to secure your hitch or cover. By the way, I don't believe they came with any maintenance instructions and if they did that would probably be the reason the average person wouldn't buy them. I'm very disappointed and would definitely not recommend this item.

so far works great

I ordered two of these and they arrived quickly. They appear to be well made, but I had a lot of trouble getting them to lock because they are just long enough to fit through a 2" hitch and receiver, with no extra. I had to work hard to get the lock mechanism to push in far enough to lock. Took a lot of effort. If they were 1/4" to 1/2" longer this problem would be alleviated. I am thinking about sending them back, but want to work with them a little more and see if there is a "trick" to getting them just in the right position to lock easliy.

Not sure why I haven't given these a golf clap yet. They deserve more, with all the nonsense I have put up with as far as hitch locks go.Toss your existing basket of these in the dumpster. Get four identically keyed units. Drop the mike. Walk away.

Loved getting 12 hitch pin, tongue, receiver and door locks all keyed the same.

Nice to cut down on keys. This would be even better if it came with a coupler keyed the same also.
