Need big clean power - you have found it
I have two of these and they are great, but there is one niggle. The fan is always starting and stopping in this guy and it makes a funny sound if you are right next to them. The XR8300 is a better amp for quiet venues, and I have to say that I like my 8300 better than the 8600 until I get into a dance setting, where the two 8600s can deliver some serious power.Like all Peavey amps, never run them more than 3/4 throttle on the preamps or the amps since they add too much noise when you go over that amount. At half throttle, they are very, very sweet and practically noiseless. This is why I have two for a dance situation. Nobody wants to hear a speaker when the music is off!

Quality PA. We use it in our gymnasium for music and microphones. Plenty of power when paired with peavey 12 cabinet speakers.

But worse yet, their warranty isn't worth squat
I have owned 2 of these, both of which one side of the power amp died. Both were purchased new and both times Peavey would not fix it, claim user error and charge you for shipping both ways. I have owned many Peavey products over the years, never having any issues. Clearly they have a design flaw with the surface mount component design they went to. But worse yet, their warranty isn't worth squat.Too bad, I was a very loyal Peavey customer over the years.

Bought it last week & brought it back in 3 days...Had the old Mackie 808s running with Jbl Mpro 15`s & 12`s as wedges ( No problems for12 years!) I wanted a 2nd backup but this unit just missed being a great head by having very thin effects- The Mackie was much warmer & closer to an analog sound for vocals than this one..I also started hearing a popping noise when using my Shure wireless mic don`t know if the head caused it but when a Karaoke audience kept asking what happened to your sound! I knew this head was not worth it when the Mackie was so much better! Now even Mackies new powered mixers are not as good as the old ones were...So I just checked out the Yamaha EMX512sc Head the effects were the same as my old Mackie but we`ll see if it holds up to 2-3 shows a week ( bought it from Guitar Center in L.I. for $600 with a 2 yr extended warranty- Think if vocals are a priority think you should go with the Yamaha & not the Peavey XR8600D

Perfect for our 5 piece band as well as our dj at the same time.
Great quality. Works great with the rest of our peavey equipment. Will be ordering another one of these for our back up system. We can power our whole band plus. I would recommend this amp to anyone. Endless possibilities.

So far So Great....
Unpacked. Plugged in to replace my Mackie 406M 500 watt. due to maxing out the inputs and wattage on the old one. Very happy. All inputs work. Feedback detection superb. Dummy proof. All PA heads should be this easy. Will use live this weekend but expect no issues...

Great Amp and Great Price!
I originally purchased a Yamaha powered amp thinking that I wouldn't go wrong because of the Yamaha name...butI was sadly wrong. The first day I used this I had many problems with it...such as the music cutting in and out, weird internal sounds. After purchasing the Peavey amp I was very happy with it. The vocal effects for Karaoke singers work great on this! Better than any other amp that I've ever used. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Also if you ever have any questions or need technical help Peavey reps are always there to help.
