This one sharpens every thing too a beautiful point. So far i have sharpened graphite
I bought another electric pencil sharpener from a local store and had to return it because it kept breaking "lead" in my colored pencils. This one sharpens every thing too a beautiful point. So far i have sharpened graphite, watercolor, and pastel pencils. I am completely satisfied and would recommend this for studio use.

Great sharpener, but with obvious limitations...
This is not your teeny tiny pencil sharpener that sits in a drawer. Instead, this is a well designed machine with the power and design to sharpen most types of pencils. The downside is its larger foot print (some other styles being smaller), but its ease of use and speedy sharpening make up for that. Another downside is emptying the generous shavings cup: the sharpener is sturdy and heavy which makes it difficult to lift over the garbage can for dumping the shavings. The cup easily pulls out, but there will be times that the whole machine will need to be cleaned. An example is when a pencil lead breaks off in the sharpener...this happened to me once. I had to take off the shavings cup and remove the broken lead using a pair of small tweezers. It all turned out okay, but it made me aware of the machines weight. Of course, that is what makes it stable while sharpening. After getting it, I sharpened a number of different types of pencils in a row without any breaks or incidents including a Staedtler triangular Learner's Pencil, different widths of regular color pencils, charcoal pencils, regular pencils, Conte pencils, and watercolor pencils. Harder pencils can be taken down to a very sharp point quickly. Softer pencils should be sharpened carefully leaving a dull point or risk having the lead break.I would recommend this pencil sharpener to others who need this quick utility for a variety of pencils (graphic artists would enjoy having this machine). However, beware of its obvious limitations. And, no, this sharpener will not do Peel & Sketch Charcoal Pencils.

Good sharpener for the classroom
I teach middle school math and science. For years I have been frustrated by the poor durability of electric pencil sharpeners when used in the classroom. Regardless of the price, none of them seemed to survive even one school year of average classroom use. In September 2015I found the Humble Genius sharpener on Amazon while once again searching for a replacement to use in my classroom. I held off writing a review because I wanted to see if this was just another "throw-away," or if somehow this sharpener could survive in a classroom. A year and a half later I am happy to report that this sharpener is still going strong! What's more, it even sharpens colored pencils without any trouble. This sharpener has lasted much longer than units that cost me 3 times as much. The only slight negative I have encountered is that the auto-stop has never really worked. However, you can easily hear and feel when the sharpener has finished sharpening, and you just pull the pencil out. It doesn't take long for the kids to learn when the sharpener has finished sharpening their pencils, auto-stop or not. I am very pleased with this sharpener, and have recommended it to my teaching colleagues.

Impressive in Size, Beefiness, and Power
This is no small, weak pencil sharpener. I can't speak as to how it would hold up in a classroom, but for my needs, as long as it holds up, it is the one to beat. I gave up my previous sharpeners to my son and needed a new one. After several failed attempts at replacing my long-loved electric sharpener, I happened on this one. Pricey to be sure, and seemed to good to be true. Once I got over the size, I was wowed by the power and sharpening. Clean and neat, with the strength to do the job. The others were weak in comparison. Sharp pencils, colored, regular, irregular - it's a wonderful thing.

So far, so good
I almost don't want to post this and jinx myself. As an elementary school teacher, I typically go through at least two electric sharpeners each school year. I've tried many of the highly rated and very expensive brands. This one - so far, so good. Easy to clean out, sharpens evenly, and has made it to January so far with continuous use. Thank you!

Very, Very Good
The Humble Genius is a Very, Very Good pencil sharpener. It is a robust, heavy duty, large, well built machine. The blade carriage is Metal, the sub-base is Metal, the motor is a powerful 120 volt unit suitable for grinding tree stumps, and is overload / overheat protected. The overall design is functional with an easy to clean shaving container, a rotating bezel for different pencil sizes, and wide base to keep the unit stable. When sharpening pencils “use a light touch” - Auto Stop will grind your pencil to a nub. Once you get the “feel” you can sharpen to a perfect point with out excess pencil wood loss. Also, “Read Instructions”. With care this machine will give exceptional service and last a very long time.A note to teachers on classroom use: the machine has a duty cycle of 5 minutes “continuous” On and 15 minutes Off - overload / overheat protection will stop the machine. This should not be an issue except in the case of a class full of kiddos standing in line on the first school day grinding through box’s of pencils.I’ve used all types of pencil sharpeners, this is the best!

Great for use on colored pencils.
After purchasing several battery operated and manual pencil sharpeners for use on my colored pencils (they simply ate pencils) I read a review of this one on Amazon and gave it a try. What a difference! I can now happily indulge my adult coloring book habit and have all the sharpened pencils I need.

Didn't Last Very Long
I teach first grade, so I need a pencil sharpener that is quick, long lasting, and can sharpen something other than USA Gold pencils (which, by the way, are the BEST pencils to buy a child for school). After just 4 months and about 40 pencils per day, I'm sending this sharpener to the graveyard to join its predecessors. The motor sounds like it works beautifully, but it's not sharpening anything :/ I'm throwing in the towel on electric sharpeners. I ordered "the best pencil sharpener" from Classroom Friendly Supplies. It's a manual sharpener, but I'm tired of wasting money on electric sharpeners that have to be replaced 2-3 times every year!
