I will give this 5 stars but a warning with a story. You bought this for your 7 year old niece (also to torment her father who would have to make it for her) . Her parents bring her to your holiday open house and you present her with her gift. She decides you MUST create her pillow immediately. You are not sober. You are trying to host a party. But you cannot say "No" to your precious baby niece. Mom and Dad say No. You're the cool Auntie. Your plan to torment Dad backfired. I don't have photos of the horror I created. But she absolutely loved it.

This is a kit for children who want to learn to sew. Note: sewing is required. Because. Its a sewing kit. I'm not sure why this needs to be stated here, but some parents seems shocked that a kit that says "sew your own" actually requires kids to sew.Ahem.Yes, this requires that children use needles. Yes, if your intention is to toss this kit at your under 8 year old child, you are going to be disappointed. They MIGHT actually need help figuring out how to use the needle properly. However, look, there are very clear and easy to understand instructions that show a child how to use a needle and thread, so you might also find your child does quite well without assistance.I liked this kit. Klutz can be very hit or miss. Some kits are well designed, fun, and interesting. Others should be tossed on a burning pyre because that would result in more "fun" than actually trying to do the crappy craft This one falls in the "awesome fun" category, and is a simple project that really is enticing to complete if you are trying to show your child how to do basic sewing stitches. The result is adorable, and there is plenty of flexibility with the designs to please both your total newbie, and the more advanced beginner.

I love this little pillow crafting set. It is very easy and basic, great for introducing a newbie to sewing. The instructions teach a variety of stitches and the illustrations are easy to follow. Naturally, a kit like this is best with the help of an experienced sewer to help answer any questions, but the kit is easy enough to follow on its own.I did wind up using a bit of extra stuffing that I had on hand (I frequently make stuffed animals as a creative outlet and usually have huge boxes of stuffing), but the amount of stuffing provided with the kit is adequate. I like a firmer stuff.This would be a good kit for a kid over 9 or 10 years old that can follow written instructions and diagrams.5 stars

My kids liked this unicorn craft.We really like craft kits. I would much prefer them doing something than watching something.It is nice because they can spend the time doing it and then they have something special to keep. They are excited when they make something themselves.This is a great activity for a rainy day or a day when your child is sick or when you are just stuck at home. It is a good way to keep a child busy.I thought it was age appropriate. It wasn’t too hard. The children really liked how it turned out.I feel like this is good for child development. It kept my children's interest. It would also make a nice gift.I would recommend it.

In my opinion, the most important thing about a craft kit is that you can hand it off to your kids and they can complete the project without help from the adult, so the adult gets a few moments of peace. I have children aged 5, 10, 12 and 13 so finding kits that meet this criteria without being too babyish for the elders is often a challenge.I have come to trust Klutz kits and this kit gave me no reason to change that opinion. The thing I like most about their sets are the clear and complete instructions -- both verbal and visual instructions are included in the book so children can work their way through without a huge need to be able to read the instructions. My children over 5 are all able to sew so they didn't find the stitches required challenging, but if you have a new sewer the directions do show how to do the stitch. All the materials necessary were included and cut to size, so there's not chance that your kid can cut a piece wrong and ruin the entire kit. There are different options for decorating so the kids really felt like they owned the result and had a personalized unicorn cake. The finished product is soft and adorable and they are proudly displaying it on the included stand in the center of my table.

We have had almost universal success with Klutz kits for many years. My daughter wanted to try out some sewing, so I got her this kit as a kind of intro to the craft. As always with Klutz, the instructions are terrific. The pieces are all ready-sized, so your child can focus on the sewing. The included sewing implements all work great with the materials. My 11-year old daughter and a friend spent a couple of hours working with this kit, and had some fun with it. The end product is colorful, cheerful, and worthy of display for a while. This kit would serve well as a birthday party gift.

My 9-year-old daughter has gotten very interested in sewing projects recently, so I got this project for her. Yes, it does seem a bit odd to sew a pillow that’s meant to look like a cake that’s meant to look like a unicorn….it’s several layers of silliness. Even so, she loved the design and had a great time making the pillow. And even better, she was able to figure it all out on her own with very little help from me, which gave her a huge sense of accomplishment. She enjoyed all the various decorating options that were included in the kit, and she ended up giving the finished pillow as a birthday gift to a friend.
