Big Moon Ritual

Spacey and sweet sounding tunes
This album is very different from Robinson's previous two solo albums, both of which were outstanding. Big Moon Ritual finds Robinson having fun playing with new people. Clearly he is (and has been) influenced by the sonic adventurousness of the Grateful Dead; this is evident throughout BMR. The tunes are loose and jammy; and though certain Black Crowes albums can be described in similar fashion--Amorica comes to mind--it's a different kind of loose and a different kind of jammy. The songs are long and run through many different moods within them. It's a conversation of sorts: the lyrics tell their story, then the guitars answer back, then the keyboards praise the whole blessed affair. Standouts include "Tulsa Yesterday," "Rosalee," and "One Hundred Days of Rain."

Blessed Be the Trip Takers!
I was never much of a Black Crowes fan... so going into CRB I didn't know what to expect. Well I was certainly surprised! What a dynamite album... the CRB has sent a statement that psychedelic music is alive and well once again. This is one of those albums that just flows as a body and is best listened to all together. Frankly after previewing their other albums and seeing them live, I think I would put all three of their studio albums in my stereo disc player and play them consecutively for a terrific psychedelic adventure. Hearing them live I could close my eyes and experience a bit of a trip while being totally sober... that's psychedelic music at it's finest!

Mellow Down Easy
It's not fair to compare this to The Black Crowes, but I can't seem to muster anything more articulate than this. The CRB sound like the Crowes on some of the best weed money can buy. The band is tight, but loose and relaxed. The musicianship is top notch andit will help you shake off the stress of a crappy day and put a smile on your face. Lots of soul, good vibes and great tunes.

Played the grooves of this
Played the grooves off this, genius, every track is full of interesting concepts, no not commercial but why should it be this is really high quality music that is very hard to fit into a genre as its covers so many.Ive just played it and played it, going to be hard to top.

A Nice Ride
I have been a fan of Chris Robinson and the Crowes sine I saw them in '93, when I was in high school. This album has the more ethereal sound of his other solo projects and is the most Dead-like of them all. It comes across well, and not like a rip-off, as he has been spending time with Bobby and is clearly inspired. I'd recommend it.

and have struggled to find new good music. After I ran in to this album ...
I'm 49, and have struggled to find new good music. After I ran in to this album a whole new world of jambands has opened up- old and new; from Greatful Dead to Midnight North. This is a great album and CRB is a superb band. The music is a mix of rock, folkrock, psychidelic contemporary music with a 70's wibe... and guitar and keyboard jams that just float away.

Is the Air Gettin Thinner Or Are We Gettin High....
Big Moon Ritual-This album is a masterwork filled with Cosmic vibes & spirit played by a bunch of true musical heroes who feel every note & lyric from the pits of there souls. The albums cover has a magnificent 70s style look to it with a grand canyon looking floor leading up into an arch that explodes into the cosmic night sky.Kinda looks like the front of a spacecraft that your floating on whilst soaking in the beautiful music that surrounds you.The album begins with tulsa yesterday a mellow country blues number that flows from a trickle into a river of sounds that inspire your soul with admiration for this band.Track two Rosalee is an upbeat scooby-Doo hug a hippie kool & the gang adventure(Is the air gettin thinner?or are we gettin high).Star or Stone is one of the best songs ive heard this century, just perfect,a band truly glowing with inspired music.Tomorrow Blues continues the vibe with Adam MacDougall's keyboard wizardry (as it says on the back of the album) creating an atmosphere of pure hippie gold its actually possibly my favourite keyboard solo ever!Track five Refelections on a broken mirror is a heartbreaking classic.Beware,oh take care & one hundred days of rain bring the album to a close & this listener was inspired & touched by the brilliance of this debut Brotherhood album.Chris Robinson is a genius & he just gets better & better like a fine wine whether your a fan of the black crowes or not you need to purchase this album it is stunning.Hats off to Neal Casal's touching, brilliant guitar work & George Sluppicks sublime drumming too.Im so excited for there 2nd album in september but for now i advise you to put Big Moon Ritual onto your stereo open some fine wine sit back & be inspired.

stunning quality, superbly played.
Having read all the reviews and agreeing with 90% of the comments [the positive ones], they sum up my thoughts on this album. I would just like to add that music of this quality can only be created by superb musicians at the top of their game. The whole band make it look so easy, when in fact the 'backroom' work probably took quite a while to figure out. Lovely album, really well constructed and one which you can go back to time after time. Those of you of a certain age will remember 'getting off/coming down music' of a weekend. This is one of the albums that would have been played had it been around. Hopefully there will be a few UK gigs to come. Like the Royal Southern Brotherhood UK gigs from 2012, I'm sure they would get a great reception. Here's hoping for some live albums soon.

Quite a spaced out psychedelic slab of music, extended jams, there are a number of "influences' on this Woodstock flower power musical journey, if you enjoy a little "Doors" and an occasional Allman Brothers Band, and Grateful Dead, and when it get's "heavy" a dash of Humble Pie thrown in for good measure. I am not sure what substance they were on during the recording sessions, but either wayit's a "trip" down memory lane, always great to listen to music laid back.
