The scent (sassafras) is perfect - very mild, but just enough to get the day off to a great start and since I use this for wet shaving my face it leaves my face feeling soft and smelling nice most of the day. The soap lathers up well into a cream like texture which holds throughout the shave (I load my shave brush with the soap about for 30 seconds, then lather the soap up in a scuttle bowl for about a minute or so, which produces enough shave cream for at least 2 shave passes). Best of all - this soap is ethically made - without animal products or harmful chemical additives, by a family in Texas - at one of the better prices I've seen!

My husband loves this shaving soap. It has a very distinct smell that we both like and it lasts forever (over a year for the first round and we're on month 6 of the second and still going strong).It produces a solid lather with an average bristle brush - not like the foam in a can, but completely respectable. He prefers less foam when using his safety razor so he can see what he's doing. He says it isn't too drying, but he does use a really good aftershave, too.We're going to buy a third bar when this bar runs out in 6 months or so.

I only gave 4 stars for scent because patchouli isn't my favorite, but everything else about this shave soap is so great that I'll put up with the patchouli. Lathered well, though I've had some that lathered better, so at first I was concerned, but when I pulled the blade across my face all of my concerns melted away. I hit the closest, most comfortable shave I've gotten in a while. No knicks. No razor burn. Not even on the troublesome neck area. My face felt fresh for the next 24 hours. I definitely recommend this product.

I have been using this shaving soap for over a year, and it works well. I get a much closer shave than with a can of either foam or gel. The razor glides over my skin a lot easier with less discomfort than with stuff out of a pressurized can. It is helpful to learn how to use a brush and shaving soap. The amount of water used to produce the lather needs to be the right amount--over a fairly narrow range. For people who have seen the light about hand sanitizers and antibacterial soap, you will be interested to know this product is organic and is more friendly to the beneficial microbes that reside on our skin. Leaving the microbes on our skin alone is much better for protecting us from pathogens than trying to continuously intervene with chemical sanitization techniques and chemical based shaving cream.

I am new to wet shaving and wanted a shave soap that had all natural ingredients so I bought this shave soap. At first I had problems with the lather that it wasn't thick and wouldn't last. Then I watched some YouTube videos on wet shaving and followed their examples and had excellent results with this soap. 1.) I put some water on the soap while I was in the shower and I soaked my shave brush 2.) I used the water from the soap on my face, squeezed out the water from my shave brush, and then loaded the brush 3.) Worked the lather up in a separate bowl with some waterThe lather was thick and creamy and lasted like this throughout my shave. I will definitely buy this shave soap again.

Buying a safety razor? Scary. Switching from conditioner to this bar? SO WORTH IT. It takes a little to lather but it lathers really nicely and lets the razor glide without filling it with gunk. I also loved the packaging and the company was very thoughtful. Highly recommend!

Really like the scent and lathers up nicely for comfort shaving. I have used this product for about six years plus or minus with no plans to change.

Being unable to find a high quality fragrance free shaving soap, I decided to give in and try this since it had all the best ingredients I was looking for. It did not disappoint. I had no trouble creating a good lather. It has a very mild and unique scent that doesn't bother me and washes off, along with a smooth shave and better feeling skin. Others reviews are accurate in that you need to relather a few times, by the time I get to shaving the other side of my face it's already absorbed into my skin. However, I'd much rather reapply it or shave in patches than get sick from toxic ingredients. The best soap I've used for my autoimmune issues.
