Great translation, great helps for new believers
As a pastor, people often ask me which Bible they should buy. With all of the translations available, along with special teen Bibles, Women's Bibles, Men's Bibles, Recovery Bibles, etc., it can be a bewildering choice. The New Believer's NLT is an excellent Bible for new believers, and for anyone who isn't familiar with the Bible and wants to get the most out of reading it.One mistake that many new believers make is to try reading the Bible "cover to cover" - in other words, starting at Genesis and trying to read straight through to Revelation. That's a worthy goal, but unless you're already familiar with the many types of literature in the Bible, and you know how the 66 books fit together (Hint: They are not chronological), you are likely to get bogged down about the time you reach Leviticus, and may simply give up. Likewise, many new believers are told that they should begin by reading the Gospel of John. This is good advice, because John gives a great introduction to Jesus. But then what? A third mistake many folks make is to go to their closet and pick up a Bible that someone gave them when they were kids, probably a King James Translation or the Revised Standard Version. These were great translations in their time, but the English language has changed a LOT in the last 400 years. That's why we need new translations from the ancient languages into modern English, so that you can understand it!The New Believer's NLT has several great things going for it:1) It is a great, easy to read translation of the Bible from the original languages. The people who translated the NLT used the most reliable ancient documents in Hebrew (Old Testament) and Greek (New Testament) when making this translation. It is NOT a paraphrase of an earlier English translation of the Bible. It is a translation from the original languages into modern English. And, it's very well done and easy to read. You will "get it" when reading the NLT.2) It offers a variety of reading plans to help you follow God's story throughout the Bible.3) It offers helps to find passages that speak to specific needs or situations in your life.4) It offers brief articles and footnotes that give you the historical context you need to understand a book that was written thousands of years ago.In other words, it helps you to read the Bible for all it's worth!

An especially helpful Bible
I love this Bible. First came across it while on vacation. The owner had left it for people to use. So nice to see in a rental home as Bibles are no longer found in drawers at hotels any longer. I discovered it here on Amazon when we got home and was happy to purchase my own copy. I'm not new to the NLT Bible, but this size and format is wonderful for bringing to church and for home use. I keep it by my bedside and it is light (paperback) to hold during my before sleep devotion time. I also think it would be great for a new Bible Reader or someone returning to it after not reading for a long time. It's easy to understand and has many different potential questions answered inside. I have purchased an extra copy to gift to someone new to Bible study. Good to have it handy!

Great for new bible readers
We bought this for a friend. There are four things I really like about this bible. The very first section explains the gospel in depth, but in a way that is easily understood. This is followed by suggested reading plans for new bible readers. That's my favorite part, because usually people just start in Genesis and run out of steam half way through Leviticus. There are inserts placed throughout the bible text, explaining things that would be hard to understand. And the NLT version is a good one for new bible readers. It's an accurate translation done by scholars, but easy to understand.THIS BIBLE IS FAR SUPERIOR TO THE MESSAGE. Please don't buy The Message. The Message is not a translation, it's a transliteration - and there is a world of difference between those two things. The Message was written out by one man for his kids. I'm sure he had good intentions, but I have found many inaccuracies in The Message.(DO NOT BUY The Message bible, it is not a translation.. It is a transliteration done by one man for his kids. Many inaccuracies.)

THANK YOU FOR THIS BOOK
The KJV is an out dated version of how we speak today. Why would someone reference a bible when they can not understand what it is really saying? We as a society today do not walk around saying Thou Arts, Brethren etc. This is all in good text if we still spoke this way; unfortunately, this is a different age and time. If we as Christians with children want to bring our children and others close to CHRIST/GOD we need to be able to communicate with them on their level, try to understand them and be able to help them fight their demons. Although, the sins people are committing are not new, however, just an advancement of inventing new ways of committing them. The KJV is a bible that will NOT hold this new generations' attention. When I first read it-it went way over my head. I was not raised with the KJV bible, I was raised Catholic. If you are aware of this faith, it is nothing like what I was use to. It threw me for a loop. I said what, what am I reading? What are they trying to say?....This bible (NEW BELIEVERS' BIBLE) is an excellent version for a person coming to know Christ or trying to get to know Christ and what he expects from us. Although, I am not a baby Christian, I still need reassurance especially now since I am one of 5.million people who just recently lost my job due to the economy. I need to be reassured of my faith in Christ and to know he still loves me. So, I am not trying to display any negative marks about past generations unfortunately, there is a different and more powerful demon we are fighting/facing now than back in the KING JAMES VERSION era. I recommend this bible to anyone and ALL Christians new and old to being saved by the Blood of Jesus.
