Black and Decker has upped it's game.
Update at bottom: The video says it all. Great product....especially for around the house stuff...even medium to somewhat heavy projects this thing will still hold it's own. It fits well in the hand....it's not crazy heavy like some drills can be when they have to have lots of power....all the attachments are stellar....and you get a lot for your money. Would buy again....but I don't think I'll have to for a long time. It's strong...and doesn't overheat. Black and Decker has upped it's game. P.s. I was not paid or given any compensation for this review. I genuinely like these products. Update: 3-25-18 So I had to laugh considering I just made my review on this drill and gave it glowing marks THE FOLLOWING DAY...it gave me crap and almost caught on fire. So here's the skinny. I was using this drill to mix some stuff (grout, mortar and cement etc) in a 5 gallon bucket that wasn't necessarily easy but I figured with how strong this drill has been that it wouldn't flinch at all, but man did it...and BIG TIME...it was smoking like crazy and then had that zapping sound you hear from power lines and....cracking. I made sure to leave it outside and put it on a surface that wouldn't create any problems if the worst should happen because I literally thought this thing was going to catch on fire. Smoke was going everywhere. I was stunned that this thing complained so aggresively. The weird thing is that I followed up with the cordless drill and it did this without much issue. It wasn't that it was overheated or had been masssively overused by this point because it was fresh right before this happened. The only thing I can guess is that the power drill is more comfortable spinning really fast. Running it at a slower speed so you don't make a mess like I was trying to do...might have been an issue for it. I don't know...I don't have the answers. All I would say is that for anything that's going to be run at full power....and within easy to medium level of difficulty you're going to be ok..but push this baby too hard and she'll remind you that she's the economy class. Stay away from pushing that line and she'll have you thinking that you're using the best in the world. I still don't have any regrets with this purchase. It still runs, I just know where it's limits are now. They're still impressive considering the cost etc. But if you want industrial strength, just remember it's meant to be home use to medium level of intensity. The high level of difficulty should be left to the names you know so well. Regards

Exactly what I expected & wanted
Standard quality you'd expect from Black & Decker. I like that the front attachment is removable--they seem to be focused on modularity, which I value. It's great to be offered a variety of tool attachments for a single motor. I will soon be buying the sander attachment. As far as the drill, it does its job well for residential projects. I purchased the BDA91109 Combination pack and it comes with plenty of bits and bores for drilling into wood. The AC motor (as opposed to battery operated drills) has enough power so that I haven't ran into any project where I was disappointed. I've definitely used other, more expensive, drills that had more power than this drill, but that's not always desired. With a power output at this level, the chance of a clumsy DIY carpenter (yours truly) stripping out a screw head is less than with a drill whose power is many times more than what a small home project calls for. My only complaint is that there is no forward-facing LED light to illuminate the drilling area. Overall I'm very pleased so far with this unit and would recommend it to other people with small at-home projects.

Easy way for me to equip a second location at a reasonable price.
I stopped buying Black and Decker tools decades ago because I just had too many problems with them. I did have some pro line B&Ds that were good, but they now have the DeWalt and Porter Cable brands to market the good stuff. I was going to get a Craftsman Bolt-on system, but then I found out that B&D was the same product only available more cheaply. I took a chance and am so far impressed with the quality of these tools. I have all the standalone tools from quality brands at home in Iowa, but I am in Maine much of the year these days helping aging relative (more aged than myself). I didn't want to invest in a whole new stable of expensive tools for the projects I do here from time to time. I got this drill at a good price here and got six attachments, mostly at half price, from here and other sources. I now have most of the tools I need to function at a fraction of the cost of big name tools of various colors. I haven't used all of them yet, but from what I can see and feel they will do the jobs I need to do. In some cases like the circular saw and jig saw they will let me get into tighter spaces than my big boys at home and that may be of use here. Let's face it, multiple purpose tools are just cool, like the Swiss Army knife and the Leatherman multi-tool. They generally aren't as good as standalones, but these show promise of being able to get the jobs done that I need to do. Oh, I opted for the corded because I already have lots of rechargeables and in 97% of cases corded tools perform better. It's not that often I need a drill in the top of a tree or on a desert island.

Perfect for lite DIY projects
I am not much of a handyman, but decided to replace our front gate post which had rotted through. For the project I also bought the sander and saw attachments. I used the saw to cut a 12 foot 4x4 roughly in half for the gate post and a later project to replace our mailbox. I had to finish the cut with a hand saw since the blade didn't cut deep enough, but cutting on all four sides of the 4x4 made the remaining cut by hand very easy. Then I used the sander to finish the cut. I then painted the post and I used the drill to attach the bottom of the post to a simpson strong-tie CBSQ. I planted the CBSQ in the ground and the gate works much better. The ability to change attachments really helped a lot. I have had battery powered drills and over time it is just too much of a pain to keep them charged or replace the batteries. So I went with corded, since I do DIY projects sporadically. It worked great. I would buy this again and am very happy with this and the attachments I purchased.

Flexible Enough For Many Tasks, But Powerful Enough For The Important Ones
I was comparing this drill with a cordless and decided that I would rather have the extra power and longevity rather than the convenience of a cordless. In retrospect, I definitely made the right decision for me. Along with an extension cord, this handy drill can reach pretty much anywhere it needs to and will never run out of batteries or struggle to drill a drill bit - completely the opposite. Plenty of power for small projects, and even larger ones too. I purchased the sanding Matrix attachment and the ease of use with this system is absolutely spectacular. You really just have to pop the drill head off, put the sander on and suddenly you have an entirely different tool in your hands. I can't wait to get MY hands on a few more of these attachments so I can tackle some more intensive projects. As the first drill that I personally searched for and purchased, I couldn't be happier. This well-crafted piece of equipment seems like it will last for years to come, with proper care of course - as with all power tools.

Light, effective
This is the second one I've bought for my wife to use restoring old furniture. The first is still going strong, but she wanted a second of the same model, so she won't have to switch from drill or saw to impact driver. Frankly, I see a third in her future:) She has small hands, and she works in confined spaces. This (second one) is what she asked for on our 8th anniversary. She uses it all the time, and she uses it hard. So far (three years), the first has performed flawlessly. I expect the second to last as long. Quality, usefulness, easy to use, at an affordable price. Good buy all around.

Great Concept
I love the one motor multiple use tool theme. I had a ryobi set w/a four stroke engine for lawn care and saved a bundle. This is a great starter tool with many uses for later. If you're looking for this to do pro grade work then you need to look for a new job. This is a light duty, personal home improvement type drill that will do most projects. Buying a corded drill will save you replacing batteries which can be as costly as buying a new drill. The real reason to buy this is for the attachments. #1 buy the impact driver attachment and you will never drive or remove a screw with the regular attachment ever again. #2 by the oscillating saw and you will find a ton of uses for it. #3 & #4 the router for finish work or the reciprocating saw for demo work. Whatever you do most.

2 Years, 2 decks, 2 windows, various small jobs, and No Problems!
I bought this drill 2 years ago, and I also invested in the Matrix bag and 2 attachments, the circular saw and the most useful has been the hammer driver attachment. I have driven 5 inch screws with it and built two decks, driving the screws for the planks with the hammer driver. Thus far, I have had zero problems Over all, after 2 years of use, I couldn't be more happy with this set. I have used it to install windows, with the circular saw attachment, it is perfect for making small, quick cuts in material without having to get out bigger or more cumbersome tools. The hammer driver drives screws home with ease, and a few that I have pulled out come out hot to the touch from the friction between screw and wood, that is how much torque this think is putting on the screws! This morning I am adding the jig saw attachment and later I will add the oscillating tool attachment. Based on the reviews, I periodically just run the drill with no load to get air flow through the drill and cool the motor. I only gave 2 stars for "Easy to use" because changing attachments can be tricky some times. The tines have to line up just right and the spring clip doesn't always retract. Reading the reviews, I see some have gotten tools with defective motors or motors that burn out shortly. If you buy this and get a defective one, definitely return it until you get a properly working one. Because once you have one that works right, you will be as pleased with it as I am. I would definitely recommend this tool, convenient, versatile, reliable.

Black & Decker Matrix Drill/Driver
The Black & Decker Matrix drill works great, great speed control for drilling. This is a replacement for my old drill which was a sears model. I bought the battery Black & Decker drill and I love It, and all attachments fits my new drill. This is the only operated drill that is an all purpose tool. I love it. thanks

Excelenticisismo

I'm in love! This Matrix series is so seductive
I'm in love! This Matrix series is so seductive, so easy to use and interchange, and so efficient. I've been hanging onto my poor overworked B&D 14.4V Firestorm Cordless Drill (FSD142) with the quick connect chuck that was probably the basis for the Matrix series, way longer than I should have. But it too was/is so efficient to work with, having the quick connect chuck with a bit holder underneath. Especially after my first one burnt out and I got a used replacement, but kept the chuck from my first one - thus being able to quick connect even faster, lol. But when my second one started to bite the dust a couple of months ago, I started researching, hoping B&D had come up with something similar, and they had! The Matrix series! I originally got the cordless 20V version in a kit with a chuck, a jigsaw and a sander, then stumbled upon the corded version through reading reviews here on Amazon on the cordless kit. And maybe it's not the most powerful drill out there, and truth be known, I haven't yet been able to use it a lot, but it has handled well with all the attachments above in the jobs I have done with it. It is indeed a great companion to the cordless version. I have done regular drilling with it, in addition to quite a bit of masonary drilling, and it did an excellent job. I read a review here about someone burning the motor out of one while drilling into cement, but I had no such problems. I think it's important to remember that your drill is only half of the combination - you also have to use the proper drill bits for the job at hand. Any drill could burn out if you over worked it for too long - and masonary is a tough one. I did some sanding and cutting with it also - once again, it handled well. No, it's not a really high end tool, but for the average person doing average repair jobs with the restrictions of an average income, Black and Decker usually does a pretty good job. Efficiency is important to me, and I haven't really seen the major drill manufacturers doing much innovation in that department - so even if money wasn't an obstacle, I wouldn't be interested in throwing my money at them. My first B&D cordless drill that I referred to above, has taken quite a beating over the eight or nine years it worked for me, so I'm hoping my Matrixes will work just as long. I'm not a professional handy-person, just mainly repairs around the house kind of thing, and doing occasional building. I'm moving into a different house very soon, and there will be work to be done - and I'm really looking forward to it now. I guess I will see just how good these really are.
